I use Totally Tomatoes, Jung's, (both at the same address in Randolph WI) and Baker Creek for trying rare and unusual varieties. Seeds are started 8-10 weeks before the last frost and are put under 3 dual row, 4500 lumen, LED shop lights per shelf on a steel rack after germinating atop of a heat mat in 10" x 20" standard trays. Plants are transplanted to 6" pots as needed prior to going in the ground. Jung's is my "go to" source but Totally Tomatoes has a huge variety of tomatoes, cukes, & peppers including heirloom for seed savers.
I enjoyed this video, and I'd love to see updates as you grow these 🙂
Maybe at harvest, you can clip all thr videos together and post one giant year-long-vlog for those people who like to watch the whole journey in one video 🙂
I always appreciate your content. Especially chicken content. But I'm excited for the growing season content too!
I have been buying all of my seeds from Baker Creek for the past 2-3 years because they are all heirloom organic non-gmo and they have free shipping.
Maaaaybe I’ll check out Johnny’s though.
Most peppers are green when unripe. If you want yellow or orange, or purple, you need to get those.
I'm just now about to run some pepperoncini, hope they're legit
Aji peppers aren't too spicy. Fruity with a kick.
Be sure to check out Bare Creek Seeds for amazing unique heirloom seeds.
100% good point about grocery stores prioritizing "big and fast". Like when was the last time you had a grocery store strawberry that tasted like a strawberry at all?
I really enjoy King Arthur, Nadapeno peppers and Right on Red peppers. They are all sweet and grow great in Wisconsin. I get my seeds from Baker Creek, Jung's, Johnny's and MIgardener.
I grew Black Magic Jalapeno, they produced a massive amount on each plant. I had around 10 plants and when they started I was picking 5-7 lbs each picking. I will always plant this variety
Skin checking is the cracking (looks like stretch marks) on the skin when they grow quickly!
I just ordered from MIGARDENER. Great selection & $2 ea pack. So you can experiment.
