URBAN FRONT YARD GARDEN vs HAIL! | Homestead Dreaming

In today’s video we prepare for a severe storm with forecasted large hail and mulch some back raised beds. Did my peppers and tomatoes survive!?

Welcome to our channel! We are Kira & Steve and this is our every day life! We are homestead dreaming, bread baking, kombucha brewing, chicken loving, husband and wife duo and parents of 3 littles.
We are slowly but surely trying to become as self sufficient as we can be on our tiny 1/5th of an acre lot! Hope you enjoy the journey as much as we do!
So grab a drink and come along 🙂

Thank you for watching! We really appreciate it!

  1. Oklahoma weather drives me crazy. I went crazy trying to protect everything. So glad we didn’t get it.its so stressful! I so wished I could Garden in shorts and tank but the ticks are terrible this season. I have never seen so many. I have so many bites that I look like I have the chicken pox. Plus we have rattlesnakes out here and copperheads so it’s not safe to be on the ground. Urban farming has its luxuries! Stay safe and blessed Kira and no hail or flooding! Wendy❤️🐞

  2. Cool that all worked out for you and saved your plants. Well now that you have a pond, I think you need a few ducks 😄

  3. Just found you from Instagram! I raise a zone 6 garden too if you want to check my channel out as well. We used empty 50 gallon feed bags to cover our plants from a late frost the day before yesterday lol. Liked and subscribed!

  4. It's good to always plan for the worst and hope for the best when it comes to growing your own food and raising animals. We know first hand how unpredictable it can be especially up here in the northeast with snow. They can forecast 6"+ and only get a dusting or forecasted to get a dusting and get hammered with snow. Glad to see it looks like your plants faired pretty well.

  5. We’ve had super strange weather too. I live in the south and we just had a frost 2 nights ago! Our projected last frost was back on April 14th!

  6. Glad it worked out! I have to use low tunnels here in eastern Canada to get a jump on the season. Our trouble has been wind. It’s been super-windy and gusty so I have to go out and repair tunnels every day. Same ribbing and spacing and sand bags as last year but it hasn’t been adequate for these winds. All in all the garden is doing well. Keep gardening and keep creating content!

  7. G'day Kira, so glad you didn't get any damage. You need a couple of ducks for your new pond lol 😂
Stay safe and God bless you guys.
