Gonialoe & Dischidia Get a NEW HOME — Ep. 298

I’ve started to schlep quite a few plants up to @FlockFingerLakes HQ in Finger Lakes country every time I take the bus. I need some carefree plants that we can place into the Meadow Home, which is an old nursery office-turned-tiny house that we are currently renovating. This Gonialoe variegata, otherwise known as tiger aloe, and this Dischidia ruscifolia, make the cut but need some new planters.

  1. “Borrow” a friend (with a truck). I would love to move your plants with you. But I am in California.

  2. Almost all my pots don’t have a drainage hole and pretty much all my plants are awesome. I wish we could post pics on YouTube

  3. A nice relaxing, informative video! I like to use terra cotta but do not like the water stains and mold that can grow between the saucer and surface under. I paint Flex seal on my saucers to “glaze” them and waterproof them.

  4. I would love to hear more of your personal opinions. 🤗 another great video and I'm excited to see how things go in the future!

  5. I love those planters 🪴 it's always so great to see you and your lovely plant collection. I really been wanting the Dischidia.. its leaves are so full of texture and beauty 😍 Thanks for sharing with us Summer!

  6. Good advice for us. First renovate or build. That is not a peaceful canvas. Then in closing, use the plans and boxes of accent pieces, for an aesthetic, restful environment. It is an unavoidable dilemna. Visitors break things, but sometimes you want to share your home, without hiding things first. The others can't see your vision in progress. Tell them to watch the channel! Some of us desperately need a retreat, not a playground, but it's an unavoidable, awful lesson in patience, just because we merely want to live and feel at home. Someone will love that Flock Lizard. 🦎

  7. I often watch your video – I think it was titled Girl VS Mealy bugs – your Brooklyn apartment videos were very comforting, I'm super happy though that you made A decision for yourself and that you're in the new house! I'm still watching! 🤎

  8. I'm in chicago so imagine my surprise when little lizard 🦎 was on my plant shelf. The eggs are in the baskets and can take 6 or 7 weeks to hatch. This has happened twice.

  9. Yeah but premature decorating is so inspiring and makes me, personally, excited in the process 😉🪴💚

  10. I boucht a christmas tree with pot. I enjoy this everyday. But after the seasonof christas, I want to keep it and to look after. How kan I do this. Wat are the conditions. Kan that stay outside?

  11. Thank you so much for all of these. I look forward to seeing your endeavors and learning a lot from your visits to various places. This is possibly a very silly and absurd question, but I'm curious if you work with all the amazing spaces you visit to connect their efforts and communities to each other? Meaning, we are starting a community "bio dome" project (I'm in Idaho, so there's nothing like it here), which is really just a modest (currently) climate controlled botanical space. It's a herculean effort with a lofty long-term goal, but I am sure curious of all the botanical spaces have interaction type programs to work with each other, to further the education and community interest and participation locally? I feel like every local community could sure benefit from these types of spaces. Thanks for everything!
