I was a master quinzee maker at the age of 6. I called it a snow cave tho.
👍🏿
What are you wearing, looks warm!
Thanks for all the updates. Just know it is appreciated.
I bet he didn't make this shelter
Yahtzee on the Quinzee! That’s cool!
Extreme mittens.
Some of us need protection from the heat, 115 F is too hot.
Probably should’ve mentioned be careful to not over exert yourself to the point of working up a sweat
For real you are not going to absorb the cold?
👍
Can't this thing potentially colapse on you? Maybe you will die without it. Hummmm. This is Mrs. Ace X, in Florida. I am not expecting snow this year. Nate, I thought that you were against doing shorts.???
Remember your videos will save lives one day Iam sure !!!!!!! ❤️🪖🇺🇸💯👍🏿
How many people lost on skiing trip carry a spade with them? Also, digging or shuffling snow is b***dy hard work, so you also have to consider conserving energy and avoiding at all costs of becoming sweaty while still conserving body heat. Wearing several pairs of woolly mittens and hoping the melting snow (warmth from hands) wouldn't soak through all of them was all we had when we were kids but there is no justification for wearing them at least without water and windproof outer layer in this day and age! lDamp clothes are the quickest way to get hypothermia.
Consider also that not all snow will pack, making a tunnel like in the video impossible without it collapsing and suffocating you. You can still dig a hole and create a bank of snow around you, if not above you to keep aay from wind.
Make something to alert for potential rescuers to them your cave might just look like a part of the landscape, particularly if a new layer of snow covers your tracks and signs of your activity. Wrap around brightly coloured, strong tape that you can use to fix or tie things in emergency on a stick next to your hole or a branch closet to you would be ideal (it should be a part of your pocket emergency kit that only gets removed to update it's content) otherwise you must try to make as much an artificial, looking structure as possible (if you have skis and sticks put them upright.)
Eating snow is a bad idea but if that's all you have try packing a small amount of snow before putting it in your mouth and hold it there as long as you can before swallowing it bit by bit – you don't want icy cold water cooling you from the inside as well.
Wtg…nice one
A black garbage bag will do the trick
where did you get those gloves? they look better than thinsulate!!
I just made one today! So comfortable.
This hit my nostalgia hard, I remember making these for fun when i was a kid
You could probably get a nice room in a motel for $500 you spend on the clothes da
another name for this is a snow cave
Funny how in Canada we have tons of snow but the homeless prefer to sleep under a bridge instead of making one of these survival shelters in winter.🙄
I live in Vermont. Cold, snowy winters, and my dad always told us kids that we could survive by doing this. He even showed us what to do! If we ever got lost in the woods I know I would be ok!!
Oooor.. hear me out…
Stay warm at home 🏡
S*** you can take shelter and then mittens he's wearing
Shit… What? I forgot the shovel. Damnit!
Why don't you just wrap yourself in those mittens? They're big enough to be a sleeping bag.
Those gloves😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
You are insane
You want the quinzee as big as possible, you want the opening as small as comfortable. More insulation the better. Foot thick walls or more is ideal
Yeah, … If it’s -20 degrees outside, the the snow will not pack to make this type of shelter.
All good if you can stay Dry. 5 Star accommodation s.
Yeah I went into winter survival course had a choice of three different shelters everybody and all three froze their ass off but we all woke up in the morning. And nobody slept
??? you bring a huge shovel like that into the woods everywhere you go? LOL, why don't you just bring a backpack with a tent and fuel for a fire?
This saved my life in a Colorado blizzard years ago.
The wall has to be far enough away from your body that it doesn't draw the heat from you. Only in a lot of wind and lack of time would I get in a small igloo. .
I hope no one ever has to survive -20 under a pile of snow!!
Honey, any room for me? Lol
Try it without a nice snow shovel
I sincerely hope I NEVER have to do this, BUT knowing how, might just save my life. Thank you…
-45 C right now
Great tip if you happen to have a shovel with you. Chances are you won't
