Loft Bed and storage area build in the Ultimate garden room

I am building a Loft bed and storage area in the garden room. This video is all about how I made the simple loft bed and it will also be able to be used as useful storage too.
Loft beds or mezzanines are really useful because they use space that is generally un-used and can save on space else where.
If you want to build a loft bed, make sure to think about the structural issues and take advice from a structural engineer before you start!!!

  1. Would it have been an idea to have fixed the ledger to the glue-lams in the recessed areas for the 4×2 then hiding the fixings

  2. Can’t say enough about the incredible joy it is to watch this channel …. May all your best wishes come true for you and the ones you love in the New Year Robin! Thanks for all the super educational vids and great projects. Cheers

  3. Hey Robin, I don't think the white cable is for drip prevention (that's a different problem with cable supports), but the white cable is supposed to be "low-smoke" if ever there's a fire. Loving the garden room series.

  4. We are glad you have a new album out for Xmas Cliff … you deserve it after all the negative press.

  5. Looks like the perfect retreat when your wife puts you in the doghouse: ) Mine is the sofa in the summerhouse i built…

  6. Nice to see things done in a traditional manner, top job. Out of interest Robin are joist hangers required by building regs for a standard floor ( which I know this isn't) or would this method be suitable ?

  7. Always a pleasure to watch perfect preparation pay off. But one important lesson (for this novice) was that even though you knew your beams were parallel, you still measured for the joists to be sure. (And would have adapted if they weren’t.)

  8. Another excellent piece of work Sir.
My handy hint for the day: if you drive out the roll pin from the tail end of your SpeedClamp you can reverse the trigger handle and use the clamp as an impromptu jack to shove a board or similar up into place. It's not perfect but it's got me of of trouble on ocaission.
Hint #2: when you put the UFH pipe down run a reverse spiral installation. By this I mean run your pipe at double spacing in a spiral to the centre of the room then reverse back on yourself and spiral back to the edge of the room. This is the JG Speedfit suggested way and leads to a more even heat distribution. I also made a piece of skirting board up with three 'mouse holes' in it to allow me to keep perfect spacing on the pipes. (I know it can't be seen once the screed is down but I'll know and it impresses the hell out of the screed guys. And yes, all of my pipe staples a are in line too!)

  9. The way you fitted those joists reminded of my parents large old house built in the 1860s. Rooms had three 6” x 12” primary support beams across the floor span and between them were 4” x 8” joists. Joists had dove tailed ends that slotted down into corresponding recesses cut into the top and sides of the the beams. Not a nail in sight

  10. I like your videos but I have to say I find the amount of adverts really really annoying but I guess that's how you make your money

  11. So essentially you’re building somewhere to sleep for when you’ve been naughty, lol. πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ€£ Happy new year to you and your clan! πŸΎπŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ˜€

  12. you can say that your building robin has been built to a very good tolarance this is a 1st that i have seen well done for making it that way …….got to say even the big construction companies would struggle to keep up with your accuracy ..once again well done to you sir such an inspiration to alot of people

  13. Nice bit of joinery work robin! When you think of it the joists being housed like the olden days…… is much stronger that any screw are nail! Your like a water fountain of knowledge robin πŸ˜Šβ€¦.

    Is those Ed’s chisels πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  14. Great pace vid, often loose tips and tricks when people try to do it in 15 mins. I learnt a lot thank you – real life 😊

  15. knock your saw out of alignment there robin, but always engaging and craftlike content
