We use fall leaves to create amazing compost for our backyard homestead and we do this in two ways. First, and the most hands off approach is to add leaves to the chicken run to create deep liter and let the hens do all the work to help breakdown the leaves while adding their manure to help enrich the compost. Second, using a chipper/mulcher to shred the leaves to help break them down for compost that will be ready for our spring garden.
