Use beneficial nematodes
Milky Spore. It's a powder and a bit pricy but it kills the larva in the ground the turn into Japanese beetles. Takes some time to spread in the ground so start sooner than later. Get rid of any roses, canna lillies, and any other flower that seems to attract them. You can tap them into a glass of soapy water to drown them. However, they do fly and can get away from you. If you put up the special traps for them put them as far away from your plants as possible. If you garden and your neighbors don't then ask if you can put the traps up in their yard 🙂
