Squamata juniper bonsai – Improving the design

In this video I work on a squamata juniper that I have owned for a couple of years and I try to add some extra interest using guy wires attached to a piece of wood

  1. I don't know why but the video quality didn't seem very good on this video. It was a little difficult to see the details on the tree.

  2. I've been watching you since you were at a few hundred subs, and I feel compelled to ask…. why did you wrap with vet tape? You never wired that part 😒

  3. Hi Tony, I nice little starter plant indeed. I like the way how you have bended and formed the trunk. Can’t wait to see the next steps to work on the rest. Good luck and see you soon. Dirk

  4. It might not be an easy tree to work on because of how prickly the needles are, but It's certainly going to be worth the effort.

  5. I've used a similar technique a few times, i find it easier when twisting the wire to bend the tree, use a chopstick as a sort of knob or handle for leverage. That being said I've also broke wire by over torquing it or twisting it 1 too many times.. Nice work as always Tony!

  6. Nice video Tony, l would probably go with the trunk splitter, and cover with raffia, and then wire as you’ve done, but if what you do works, that’s another way to do. Thank you for the video, look forward to the next. 👍

  7. I think we can file this one under ‘no pain no gain’ on multiple different levels 😁

  8. You've certainly compacted the tree a lot Tony. How long do you reckon on leaving the guy wires on for as it'll be awkward to trim the foliage to shape not knowing how much the trunk's going to spring back. Anyway, looking forward to seeing this Juniper progression in the future. 👍👍

  9. I like where this tree is going Tony.
And if you’re going to be squeamish, you should buy some nice little gardengloves.
    With flowers. 😉

  10. Awsome bending Tony! I did juniperus chinensis stricta last night. And had to put on gloves. The dead needels inside the tree was Syringe tips

  11. Great logo by your friend good work getting movement into the Juniper-despite the pain from the needles, needs to be left now to set the shape. All the best mate.

  12. I think prefer boulevard to sqamata lovely to touch. You did a great bit of bending on this one, the crack was hard luck but gave the opportunity to show how to deal with it should it happen. And your eyes getting better too. Well done. Keep growing xx

  13. WOW! Iron Maiden Bonsai by Tony. You grow them I’ll torture them 🤣😂😅. Tony once told me “I never met a bonsai I couldn’t “break” 😂. Thanks, keep growing

  14. Absolutely LOVE the new logo Pal. Speaks a lot to your progression is a short period of time. Bonsai on dude

  15. Tony were are your gloves at for this tree? Your hands are going to be all kinds of upset with you!
That new logo is awesome! To your friend very well drawn.
You added some good movement to this tree. Very well done!

  16. As usual Tony, you teach me heaps. Your bending ideas are fantastic. If you ever go into merchandise I'll have a t- shirt, polo shirt & mug please.
