Hot water. As others have said, boiling is usually best. That’s really the only way, you need to dissolve the sugar.

When I’m trying to preserve some of the crystals, I boil a kettle of water and put the tiniest amount in there and swish it around. Pour out the water and whatever crystals are free and repeat. Been enjoying crunchy maple sugar this way for years. Also, the water you dump out is spectacular in tea.

Microwave it. It’s just sugar crystals
Put the jar in a pot of water, boil said water
Dry it out and have maple rock candy
