  1. Thanks Charlie for another great video. For the bus wiring on my layout I’ve been using the Wago blocks for a while. It’s certainly a lot easier than soldering while hanging upside down under my baseboards. Unfortunately it’s too late for me to make my baseboards removable. As far as the Hornby announcements are concerned there were a few offerings that caught my eye but at the prices Hornby are asking my credit card will be staying in my pocket for the time being. Electricity and gas have a higher priority 😢

  2. Thanks for the fish plate tip, I’ve only been struggling to fit them for 50yrs, what a “Twonk” 🤦‍♂️

  3. Once again we eagerly wait for the Next episode Looking forward to your McKinley Railway
I'm also looking forward to seeing you install your MP1 and MP5 point Motors and see which decoder your using and how you wire them up as ive had a few decoders fail on me and had a few MP1 burn out looking to go Digitrax DS74 if and when you can get them or maybe the New Kid on the Block YaMoRc .
Glad Ive gone with Digitrax as I know they are Old Tech but they just seem to Work playing with the New PM74 but there isnt a lot of information out there but Im Getting there.
As for Hornby I think they have few good Idea's with the Bluetooth Dcc and i think TT120 is a Good Niche but their Pricing for Locomotives is a bit off the Norm be glad if they can bring some of the Manufacturing back to the Uk .
Keep up the Great Work as always Excellent Videos

  4. Hello Charlie, thanks for another very good video. Not related specifically to what you were showing us, but I'd be interested to know the overall dimensions of your layout. Also how high and deep do you make your baseboards? Finally, what about your lower layer – how far below the upper baseboards? Thanks very much. Phil.

  5. Hi Charlie. Long time viewer, first time posting.

I’m in Australia. Any idea what the equivalent to Copydex would be over here?

  6. have you broken one of your rules by planning points and double slip across a board joint?
    Surely not ….lol

  7. You mentioned the Hornby announcement, did you catch their announcement concerning their iteration of DCC?

  8. Good evening Charlie great to meet you today at the wsm show well worth the visit after speaking with the very experienced DCC guy's they pointed me in the direction of Jmri after I mentioned powering a turn table could this be a topic for the future. Graham. 🛠

  9. Hi Charlie, your videos are a godsend, especially to a 72 year old who hasn't touched modelling for 60 years. Can you please point me in the direction of your beginner videos as I haven't a clue. DCC, whats that ? how do you wire it up. I'm a Radio amateur so at least I can solder. Any advice would be fantastic, (trying to impress my grandson). Thanks. Alex

  10. Great video as usual. The neatness of your wiring is something to aspire to. Have you considered volts drop issues using the WAGO connectors for your bus wire, especially on a large layout. 20milliOhms per contact so 40milliohm per break in bus wire. If drawing 1 Amp that is 0.4volts if you have 10 breaks in the bus wire. I like the dcc concepts solder tags you demonstrated in video 175 as cable is not cut. But once the wiring has been teed off the bus the Wago type connectors are a good idea.

  11. Charlie,
Installing fishplates using a piece of bent rail – brilliant!

    Have just ordered WAGO connectors.
Great tips. I live in Washington State in the US and don't have a club to join within 150 miles…..
    Just signed up for Patreon.
    Be well,

  12. Happy New Year Charlie to you and yours . The Hornby realease 2023 why do they keep going on about working buffers, Yes they are very nice but Why ! I would pefer they did away with sprung buffers and supplied a footplate crew, loco lamps , Fire irons any of these in my opinion would be better, The other gripe is the why they have done away with the trailing bogie and now use a flangeless wheel, not a fan of this idea. The prices are now way to costly £60+ for a coach, Again very nice but a rake of 10 £600 Oh my god.

  13. Well as usual another very informative video with lots of interesting detail on How to with your layout, i like your mention of MOJO, to me that is when you lose enthusiasm on your hobby which i have suffered from, but with your detailed videos and those of Underground Eric they do give me encouragement to get back into it, Thank you.
As for Hornbys 2023 release video, i found the Blutooth control interesting as with the New model of Deltic, but to me the prices of new models are ridiculous, especially those of us who live downunder as it is twice that price plus expensive postage, and for the record i cannot understand Hornby doing TT120, if they had to do it why not TT110, as the original scale, Keep up the great work.

  14. WAGO Pronounced ‘vah-go’ are brilliant connectors that I have used a lot in industrial work. They do manufacture a long strip version in conventional terminal format, which directly replaces your prehistoric terminal strips. The downside is that they can only be purchased in large quantities, so in this case the prehistoric version wins. I have used the HobbyTrax alternatives for connecting section droppers to bus wires, and am very pleased with the compact and tidy appearance of the completed wiring. If I have one left when I’ve finished, I’ll send you one to review.

  15. Hi Charlie, excellent video. The simple things are the best, a brilliant tip for fitting fishplates. Regarding Wago connectors, if you look at the side of the body you will find a guide for how much insulation to strip back. I find Wago's work exceptionally well and pretty cheap to buy, at least from my supplier (CPC). Keep up the good work.

  16. Hi Charlie . Nice video and always enjoy these. Just a comment on the position of your signal box. Most of the points will be invisible to the signal box as they are behind the box leaving the signal man blind to activity. Sorry but maybe something to ponder ?

  17. Hi Charlie. Great to meet you at the Frome model Railway show last week and thanks for your advice on model railway controllers. Superb video as always and you are a great inspiration to many people , myself included

  18. Hello charlie , been watching your youtube video's for some time now and your my favourite got to channel and your expertise and knowledge is second to none iv learned so much watching you and been doing my own layout which is nearly ready to landscape after several changes over the last 2 years and finally getting to what i want it to be and some valid advice from you on your channels has helped me in a very big way. After seeing dcc pop up almost everywhere in direct complicity it was whilst watching one of your episodes on dcc that explained in great length in accurate detail whats involved and im glad to say i swiched over and not regretted once even though its getting very expensive hobby to be in it is a love affair after all . Thanks for all your video tutorials, Regards kev

  19. Hi Charlie, great video as always. I also use tortoise motors and also drill out the holes as you do, I have had only one failure in 12 years which was due to minute bits of plastic jamming the gears, I'm fairly certain it was down to my drilling, I now cover the operating slot with masking tape during the drilling process and if drilling holes in the baseboard close to motors.

  20. Another very informative video Charlie. I'm currently dismantling an old layout and planning a new one, and your point about having a plan is a good one. I've broken down my plans into two days a week with manageable targets – and when they're complete I move onto the next one on the appointed day. A bit OCD perhaps, but I can track my progress and not go off in different directions! Great tip for the fishplates!

  21. Another interesting video Charlie thank you. Yesterday I changed point configurations in the fiddle yard, it’s nothing as neat as yours! Re: Hornby… oh dear! Full of excuses; certainly not exciting and does SK seem a bit aggressive? Nothing new again for the GWR modeller of the 1930’s….

  22. Thanks Charlie – another great watch. Your 'electronic' are beyond me at this time – I have just completed 70 years of modelling so not going down your route although if re-starting it clearly is the way to go. Reference Hornby – they have lost the plot by producing masses of A4s AGAIN following the 'gatherings' etc. How many A4s are people likely to 'collect' at these prices? Also how many of the new 'streamline' 4-6-0 locomotives are people going to buy – not only are they restricted in numbers (only 2) but they had a very limited area of use in real life so only a few modellers could use them.

  23. Hi Charlie, thanks for a great video, progress abounds at Chadwick! Had a decko at the Hornby 23 range, I think they could really be onto something with this new dcc/ Bluetooth controller! I do dc but you're a well versed dcc user- what are your thoughts Charlie? Good or a gimmick? Take care mate, regards Terry

  24. Hi Charlie, I noticed that you use feedback from your point motors to TrainController. Is there any benefit in this and have you experienced this benefit ? Do you do this as it is recommended or in your mind necessary ? I have Itrain using Cobalt Digital and don't run feedbacks from the point motors, but I am now wondering whether to ?
