Knowing These Could Save Their LIFE! What to watch for when your cow is expecting.

There are many signs to watch for with an expecting cow. This is my first dairy cow, and her name is Clover. She is due soon, so we have been watching her every day and almost every hour to ensure she has all she needs and catch any dangers that might be looming.

  1. I could completely relate to the mama in a store video. Hope your cow safely delivers soon. I love how the others are watching close enough to get there quickly but wanting to keep distance at the same time. So cute

  2. This makes me so sad for you Melissa. She was so beautiful and sweet. Thinking of you and sweet Clover.

  3. This is so interesting. Thanks for sharing. We've only had male bulls for beef (we had a female calf once but she passed away because lady was out here eating trash 🙁 apparently) and I was never really involved in any of the process other than feeding them
This is p informative, thank you

  4. A couple of questions for you. How much alfalfa did the vet suggest to give? Because I know that too much alfalfa will cause bloating. And if you're not giving grains, what do you give to boost/help with their milk supply?

  5. Great information and love the thumbnail picture Melissa! Clover is so gentle.

  6. So sorry. This is one of the worst and hardest parts of farming or homesteading. I know the results from your emails. My heart goes out to you. You are your videos are a blessing, thank you. I bought the Weston tomato press, and I am excited to use it this weekend.
    God Bless

  7. THANK YOU for making this video! Yes, please keep us updated. We have a Jersey that we're hoping is bred back. Waiting on an ultrasound. But I've seen this issue a lot in our cow groups and want to be prepared for these circumstances. With your calcium bolus, was it CMPK paste? Or just straight calcium? And regarding the alfalfa pellets, I've been afraid to get those (we order from Azure too) because I hear others say not to give them pellets due to choking risk. Has that ever been an issue? Thanks again for making this video. Looking forward to the follow up!

  8. Melissa, I am so very grateful that you bring this to our attention. We’ve bought two youngJersey’s who will be bred to give birth, God willing, next spring. This will give us enough time to figure out rotational grazing practices, building a solid relationship with our girls and have everything ready to go next spring.
Can’t wait for more info on dairy cows, milking etc. Thank you and good luck to sweet Clover!

  9. After reading your email update, I couldn’t watch but wanted to let you know you are all in our prayers. Condolences on the loss of your sweet girl. 💔

  10. You had me laughing at the mama in the store part, and crying at the end because I get your emails. You gave clover so much love and help. I'm sure she (and God) is thankful she had you as a caretaker to love her and be with her through this.

  11. I dairy farmed for 50 years .your cow is sick and very skinny.beef cows may be able to live on grass but dairy cows cannot feed her some grain.

  12. we have heard, that your going to have the northwest homesteader coalation. we want to be there, we live in libby montana, my name is karena

  13. this is not to say you did not give her amazing care, you clearly loved her and did all you could especial not even being sure of her age. It’s however
I milk close to 100 cows twice a day on a third generation closed dairy farm, (meaning all of the heifers are born, raised and bred right here, they have 140acers of pasture and even though they are required to be numbered, they also all have names, and every family member knows who’s who. Dairy cows need the carbs in grain, I don’t understand why people think they don’t.let a cow run free near a grain field you bet your but it’s part of their natural diet for a reason. But definitely should be kept in moderation. The grain and hay fed to our guys is produced right here. We definitely know where it’s from and how it’s grown. That being said these guys have gone as long as 15years unfortunately that is not common, in the average dairy that does not give grain they don’t normally make it beyond 8 years.. for those who don’t know cows, they don’t live as long as horses. 15 is great- 8 or less is unfortunate.
You are a great person, your animals are well cared for, please reconsider your personal views on “grain” over grass fed with your future dairy cows, they really do have different needs.

  14. Come on clover, you can do it!!! Never had cows, always Nubian goats. LOVED my goaties AND the milk.

  15. This was fascinating to me. Can't wait to see an update! In the beginning you mentioned differences in beef cows and dairy cows. I'd love to hear more about those differences.

  16. I have 2 boys and they would hide in the circular clothes racks and then peek out and say boo! I laughed so hard that I about fell out of my chair.🤣🤣I hope everything will be okay for you. I receive your newsletter. Peace be with you and your family. 🙏
