  1. Chinese fringe tree will grow in Texas. Will the tokyo tower be a possibility of growing in Texas since it has the chinese fringe tree root stock?

  2. I appreciate the videos as always. Poor Jason sounds like he is waiting for a root canal at the dentist, talented I’m sure but dang cheer him up Jim! Life ain’t that bad!!

  3. i work in a tree nursery in nothern germany, we cleft graft fruit trees like apple, pear, cherries, quince, plums and medlar in january and do T-buds in july/august , the main reason for the cleft grafts is that you can do them in the wintertime and they start growing in the same year , the T-buds in july first heal and start in the next spring , so cleft-grafts safe us a whole year of growing for the final fruit tree, which takes 3 years.
your videos are fascinating to see the horticulture and the gardening on the other side of the atlantic

  4. Fascinating!! Makes us appreciate some of these cultivars even more. I have both a Tokyo tower and a regular fringe tree I got from Jason last spring at the JCRA. They are great looking specimens.

  5. Jim,
I've read how to graft this way, but seeing it actually done makes it so much more clear–thank you! 😊
Btw, did you happen to bring home one of the Jim's Little Guy plants, I believe it was called? 😉

  6. The skill of Jason when going through the grafting process, especially the final wrapping/sealing of the graft union, shows the level of confidence he has acquired using this method. Jason made a complicated activity look doable to even a budding gardener like myself. Seeing the process being performed and having the process described really helped me understand what was happening and why. Thank you all for another informative video.

  7. Fascinating video! Thanks Jim and Jason. That’s a detailed and dedicated process. First time seeing it in action.

  8. How fascinating ! Although most of us won’t ever do any grafting for our landscape, it’s so very interesting and informative!! He’s what I’d call a true “tree man” – so knowledgeable!

  9. nice video.. This grafting process take along time to get to the good height. I bought my tokyo tower 3 gal size ( thick trunk, 3 feet height ), from mr maple for $60.. lol

  10. I would be extremely excited to try this at home as an experiment. So is it necessary to have the same type of tree as the root stock? Like an apple tree to an apple tree and so on? Or can I use any type of a seedling to graft from?

  11. You gotta appreciate the dedication that Jason has and his skill..oh and knowledge. Mind boggling, doing over 100 grafts a day.
Gives me a new perspective on plants and labor .very interesting.
    Appreciate your channel

  12. Thanks gents for this video, now I feel like playing Dr. Frankenstein.

  13. People wonder why these type trees cost more! Well lots of effort and time to get to a three gallon size. Thanks Jason and Jim but now I need three new trees. lol

  14. The simple way to get a free tree is just digging up a sucker with its own root system. I got a dogwood that way from my neighbors yard.

  15. Hello Mr Jim Putnam and Stephany and my garden friends hoped you all doing well 😀. January I m cleaning the garden and almost ready to much. Leaving how to praprigate plants 🪴 is interesting 🤔 thanks have a great fun day 😀

  16. Fascinating!!! Thank you Jason, Stephany and Jim. I will cherish my grafted trees in a whole new way now!

  17. A most informative video! I've heard of grafting, wondered what it was exactly and never got around to researching it. What an amazing process! Now I understand why my apricot colored rose changed to red (I'm sure I somehow killed off the apricot…🙄) Thanks so much for this, Jim and Jason!

  18. Makes you wonder how folks can complain about the price of plants when you see the time and effort involved in growing them
