Homegrown Food Edible Britain National Gardening Week 2019

It’s National Gardening Week here in the UK! To celebrate, the lovely Liz Zorab at Byther Farm, together with the equally delightful Erica from her Little Welsh Garden, have invited a host of Youtube gardeners to give an insight into why we do what we do! What more reason do I need to give you a tour around my plot and talk – ad infinitum – about gardening?

  1. I've just ordered two appletini patio sized trees , the apples are golf ball sized which will be perfect for my children , its true you wouldn't get those in the shops

  2. I am right with you ..just love gardening from seed catalogues to starring at the soil to seeing seeds come up planting them..ahhh Yes sister right with you. And inspiration from you all on YouTube that keeps it going..Thanks💌

  3. An hour after planting seeds I begin looking at the pots. No not up yet. Then the day you wake up and take a walk in the garden and the baby plants are beginning to pop out of the soil. That is very satisfying and exciting. Mike is a smart man. His answer was perfect.

  4. Love your enthusiasm it's so infectious, gardening is a way of life for us plotters. Lovely video Jane, take care 😀👍

  5. Hi Jane 🙋 thankyou for this update,it's always a pleasure seeing you and listening to you waffle hahahaha listen Jane give the Aubergines a go they are pretty amazing plants to grow and the fruit is sublime,Ok they do take a bit of time to get going but it's sooo worth it 👌lovely update and we will see you soon 🌱🌱🌱

  6. Get that drone up Jane! You could do a fab spring, summer, autumn, winter transformation! I’ve only just realised how huge your plot is. It’s looking fabulous, you can tell how much hard work you’ve both done. Great video x

  7. I love the birds…and the wobbly path 😂

OH and btw, you’re the reason I bought some comfrey root cuttings, the problem is that I bought four from EBay, and they sent seven 😂. What I’m going to do with them all I have no idea.

  8. We return to the things in life that we love and hold an interest in our hearts and stir a passion within us. You are such a lovely down to earth lovely person and so easy to watch. Love your videos and watching your allotment take form. From a kindred spirit in Dorset, Jo 😘

  9. please get a headband to hold your hair back – you drive me nuts when you all ways fuss with it

  10. This was an absolute joy Jane. I love gardening and do it for a career. My greenhouses (yup, 2) are currently groaning with plants & seedlings. And I couldn’t be happier.

  11. Hi Jane thoroughly enjoyed the video again and the ramblings……….make me laugh………….especially you saying you probably had no friends. I remember as a child being given the mint to look after. At the time I thought I was doing a great job not realising how invasive it is (I was only about 6 yrs old) I also remember following Dad out to the greenhouse regularly, knocking on the door to let me in, not understanding it was his 'space' and 'time out'. Looking back I am certain I developed my love of gardening because I was raised by parents who also had the same enthusiasm. I also agree it is amazing how such beautiful flowers and vegetables start from the smallest seeds………..Happy gardening x

  12. Loved your video and enjoyed the chat too, makes you think about childhood memories and being in the garden thanks, your garden is looking really good now. It's true about the excitement of seeing green shoots coming thur the soil. Great !

  13. Loved your video as always Jane. In envy of the size of your plot. Ericas lil welsh garden is not as small as it once was. Another lovely lady thou and another great watch. Best Thing i ever did was taking on my allotment 4 yrs ago. Such a joy to be down there

  15. HI Jane,
Your video put it in a nutshell. You have given all the reasons why working in the garden is so wonderful.
I myself have only one minigarden and a small balcony. I have a few tomatoes, peppers, chillies and calendulas every year. Plus a few other flowers and herbs.
For me, gardening is total relaxation after a hard day's work.
My neighbour, sitting on her balcony, always says: "It's so relaxing when she can watch me at work. Hahaha….!

Besides, Jane, I could shy away from a garden or greenhouse tour every day. I always find them varied and interesting.

    Dear greetings
    Claudia from Germany

  16. Absolutely true! Nothing like that first bit of green showing up! Glad I found you thanks to the NGW 2019 playlist.

  17. Staring at blank soil! Hahaha, yes totally. Jumping out of bed in the morning and racing to the window sills to see if any magic has happened overnight with the indoor sowings….and then the day comes when they can go out into the ground…..and our hands are permanently mucky……………and then we get to harvest. I NEVER tire of the joy of it. Thanks for a lovely video! I'm so excited how your new plot is developing – it's gorgeous. 🙂

  18. It is lovely there on your allotment and I love the peace and quiet. Where is Tiddles? Hope she is well. I, too, love not only the taste of homegrown but also the variety. However the dratted mouse keeps eating my seedlings so I may only be getting the starts available at the store. Next year, though. Maybe that is something else about gardening…one is always thinking about, and planning for, the future.

  19. So happy I found your channel Jane. Hello from Tucson, Arizona USA. I love watching garden videos and especially those from the UK. You have captured my sentiments so well. I have sprouting pots all over the place… my kitchen window is covered with new "babies," I call them. Soaking seeds are warmed on top of my coffee maker…. (does seem to help some hard shelled varieties). I live in a desert environment (zone 9b) so haven't figured out how to use a greenhouse effectively as our temperatures become too hot many months (95-115F) and can't afford to air-condition one. I will enjoy watching you 'hatch' and replant seeds in your tidy greenhouse.

  20. Jane, I love your so called "waffle". It all makes total sense to me. This from 2021. Still catching up. x
