  1. Home depot garbage cans are always filled with broken plants or broken pots with good plants. I always take what I need.

  2. I have lots of free plants in my kitchen window from the stores. I didn't make my video yet but I rooted 2 red geraniums and a plant that looks like the one you have. I think it's a sedum. It bloomed all winter with tiny white flowers and they turned pink before dying off. It keeps making more blooms right away. It's still in water. I'll be potting all of them up this week and do a video. Thanks for sharing and have a great evening and happy gardening 🌿🌱😊🤗

  3. I always learn something from you. And you have inspired me to think outside the box with gardening. Thank you for sharing.

  4. This is an incredible tip Robbie, thank you so much for sharing this with us! I love geraniums and did you know that they help combat Japanese beetles? I want LOTS of geraniums this year. Hopefully I will get lucky in the parking lot too!

  5. I watch the "trash" and the "mulch" piles at the road. I had rich neightbors across the street that I could count on throwing plants out every fall. They looked dead but the roots were fine. I would put them in my basement and by spring I had free hanging baskets.
I also go to village mulch piles for roots plants and bulbs others have thrown out.

  6. I'm a new subscriber! These videos are easy to understand and fun! I live in central Wisconsin and we are in a winter storm right now… after days of 40s and even a couple of 50s. I enjoy seeing your gardens. I have grabbed broken pieces but they typically die. I keep them inside and I end up forgetting about them because they're so small. In the summer they thrive outdoors! I'm inspired to start a little nursery for baby plants and compost too.

  7. Another great tip Robbie – thank you : ) I like the smell of geranium leaves and chrysanthemums – very earthy.

  8. Terrific tips Robbie! Thank you!
My mom always was on to lookout for free plants and cuttings. We could not afford to buy plants. And our neighbor and my mom were always giving each other snips of plants. Those are some good memories of my mom.
One time at a famous rose garden in Pasadena, she even asked the gardener for clippings, he said NO.

Hey you never know till you ask.

  9. Aww Robbie the Jade plant would have rooted with all the leaves intact. Moist soil in the beginning to help it stay hydrated until it takes and then water when the soil has completely dried out. The leaves you clipped can root as well. Succulents will root fairly easy.

  10. My 93 year old aunt found a piece of “Wandering Jew” in the parking lot of Lowe’s. Now, we all have pots and pots of it. I even planted it in my flower bed as filler. It’s beautiful and spreading everywhere. I smile every time I see it, bc it reminds me of Aunt Ila. Waste not, want not!

  11. I love this idea! My daughter always felt bad for little broken plant pieces left in shopping carts and brought them home to put in a vase. Now that we know some of them could be grown into new plants, we for sure will be trying it! Thank you!🙂👍

  12. There are only a couple of things I have had luck propagating- and geraniums are definitely #1! I saw a video where you dip the stem in water that has a vitamin c tablet dissolved in it before planting. I think I'll be adding your kitty litter trick to my method now too! Thanks for sharing!

  13. Hi Robbie, love watching your tips and tricks… always learn something new. Love those firecracker plants too. I have several and they seem to grow bigger each year and are so pretty when in bloom. Thanks.

  14. We share a secret! When I'm at Home Depot or Lowe's I always look around and have found pieces I've been able to root, either on the ground or around plants in the garden center or in baskets or on the ground in the parking lot. I don't have to wander around, just pay extra attention wherever I'm already looking at plants. And I'm always parked where there are shopping carts and cars coming and going. Jade and other succulents do take root very easily – that's why I have so much jade and so many succulent plants, including fire plant. I've seen a lot of recommendations to let succulent cuttings "harden" before planting – just letting them sit. Once in a while I do that when I've trimmed jade, but I've never had a problem without bothering. Geraniums are another of my favorite plants and I constantly propagate those, by just sticking pieces in soil.

  15. I found 14 dollars in a Lowes parking lot a couple years ago. Finders Keepers, if it was a large amount of money, I would of left a note at customer care, saying I found money in the lot and put my # on paper and have the owner call me and describe the amount, I'm not leaving cash at the lost and found, with thieves everywhere.

  16. I've never had to root geraniums 1st just put in soil and they seem to take root on their own… also found broken pieces laying around stores too.

  17. Thanks so much for the tips. That was a great idea. I’ll keep my eyes open.🥰🥰 I love free pets🤣🤣
