Everything Is Changing // Life in the Mountains of Portugal

We are Zak and Jackie and together with our child and our old dog Caat we live in the mountains of Central Portugal. In 2019 we found ourselves buying 2 hectares of abandoned land and a house and we finally made the move in 2022. Follow us on our journey of rehabilitating former Eucalyptus plantation land, building a house and a life in a new country.

  1. Sorry to hear that you have been feeling poorly. Hope u will bounce back soon. Looks like you have been very busy with a lot of back breaking work. The options u are making sound very reasonable and realistic. Look forward to see ur progress from time to time. Success!

  2. Good to see someone else who understands that Youtube is a soul-sucking trap for creators. It's sad and a bit pathetic to see really good creators slavishly creating clickbait titles constantly to get views. Best of luck with your upcoming job.

  3. Hope that the full-time job will work for you. I really appreciate your views for the land and year's to come. When I see your land and all the trees surrounding your living area, I get really worried about the fires on the forthcoming months. Stay well and safe.

  4. it can take decades for heavy clay soil to become very loose
best thing is to dig it up once mix in compost
then leave it like that and then year after you could do lasagna method ontop of that soil
you dont want to dig it up twice or you will kill the soil life

  5. Because it's been a month since our last video, if you want to help us in "waking" the algorithm up again, feel free to like and comment on this video – or even share it with friends 🙂

  6. Good luck with the new job and getting your work done at the Quinta. I’m quite new to your channel but was impressed by the video I saw recently so I’ll look forward to new ones as you release them. And oh how I love fresh fava beans. My mother used to buy them when we were children and we’d eat them raw right out of the pod.

  7. Fix income will probably do more for your quality of life, assurance to your baby, and your homestead evolution then everything else. No regular money its just stressfull. Everything on the land comes slow anyway. Good on you. Best of luck.

P.s. on our dry summers clay soil are sometimes an advantage. Not easy, but…

  8. Congrats on your new job! I hope it all works out for you. Glad to hear that you will be getting volunteers in the summer. I always enjoy you content whenever you get a chance to post, and appreciate how much hard work is involved in making these videos. I get notified when you post so never miss out if your posts are irregular.

  10. Yes, the YouTube game can be a little overwhelming. But keep the videos coming, we like to see your updates and the land.

  11. Hope the new job works out well, I'll look forward to your monthly videos even more! Always a hard balance between money and time but these things come in seasons I guess, enjoy the money!

  12. I appreciate your frank assessment of "YouTube Life" – as you say, exchanging one rat race for another. I find the clickbait titles I see on other channels really annoying. I'll be very happy to watch your videos as and when they come. It's great to see the land responding so well to your management. Best of luck for the Summer ahead!

  13. It’s good to see you, I’m enjoying your newsletter. Real people as in babies and partners are much more interesting than us virtual people😂 i agree about grass although it doesn’t make me popular with my neighbours. I look forward to hearing how the new job goes, see you next month❤

  14. Nice to see another video. Do whatever works for you! Otherwise, you won't keep it up anyway. Good luck with the new job!

  15. grass/lawn is horrible… I think it's the worst "weed" out there… not talking about proper mixed meadow grass and flowers of course

  16. No need for clickbait to keep me here, but i'm happy you found a good job and you guys are making progress at the farm!

  17. Good luck on your new job! I have been a silent watcher for a little bit and really enjoy you sharing your experiences with us. I am Portuguese and living in the Netherlands. We look forward to moving back sometime in the future. Best wishes to you. I am also like you, enjoy to use YouTube as a creative outlet for fun and have been getting more into it this year!
