  1. I built one of these beds three years following your video and I am probably the least handy person I know. I've gotten so many tomatoes using the bed you designed and I can't wait to fill it with tomatoes again this year. Appreciate all the work you do Brian!

  2. You have a beautiful setting. Thanks for sharing this video. My raised bed garden is near my patio and easy to get to. It is also my happy place 😊

  3. Great tips! When I first built my raised beds I was told to use cedar because it would last the longest. Unfortunately for me it only lasted 3 years before they were rotting so bad the soil was totally spilling out onto the ground in the paths. To me it doesn’t make sense to spend that much money to build the bed just to have to replace it a few years later. I ended up replacing them with Vego metal raised beds and am so glad I did. They work really well, look so much nicer and will last a long time. I also experimented with using one of those fabric raised beds and didn’t like that much. The soil in that bed was the same as my wooden beds but it dried out much faster and plants wouldn’t grow because within 24 hours after watering really well the soil was bone dry again.

  4. If I kneel on the ground I better have a back up plan as to how I’m going to be able to get up! 🌷💚🙃

  5. If I have untreated wood for a raised bed, would coating it with boiled linseed oil be an option for a natural preservative to prolong the life of the wood?

  6. Brian, your gardens are coming along nicely! Beautiful. An enormous amount of work. I can’t wait for your cottage garden to bloom and the rest to start producing! It looks like a lot of fun! I hope you can finish the brick laying project, even though it’s hard, boring work at this point. The whole thing is beautiful!

  7. In my husband's field, you cannot talk about projects they worked on. When interviewing for a new job, since he couldn't talk specifics about what he did at his job, he used building a raised bed as an example 😂. Got mult job offers, so it worked. We watched Brian's videos at old house as a guide.

  8. I used the raised-bed corner bricks from Home Depot: the brick sides have slots for 2x6s and can be anchored with a bit of rebar. I stacked 2 for my 2×12 boards. Easy!

  9. Any suggestions on adding mulch when you already have a huge pill bug problem? Idk why my pill pug population is so high. But they love to eat my bush bean seedlings. I'm worried adding mulch with make it worse.

  10. We have a big maple tree in our yard, can I use those leaves for mulch and do I need to shred them first or can I leave them whole? Thanks for your help! This is my first time using raised beds. And your videos have been so much help! Thanks 👍

  11. so why put construction mesh IN the bottom of the bed, if you surround it on the outside edges of the bed, they can't burrow down and up. high speed wireless lead works for a lot of us. My fence line has wire underneath to prevent burrowing as well. you didn't mention a wicking bed, straw bail dug down 12 inches below the bottom of the bed to hold moisture.

  12. I just bought 2 metal beds that are 4x8x16”high. I might buy more if I like them. I’m tired of changing out my wood bed’s every few years and these are higher.

  13. I have a question about a raised bed garden for strawberries — I'm on my third year of growing strawberries from the same plants. I haven't been pulling the plants up, and I haven't been changing out my soil.

What's the best way to address the soil and take care of the perennial plants?

  14. This is some really good advice! You are the reason I have my raised beds and why they are doing so well!!
