  1. I think your channel should be called HortTube with Jim & Stephanie Putnam..she is an amazing camerawoman and helps you remember plant names, travels with you to do videos as well as comes up with beautiful containers recipes..give honor to whom honor is due..you guys are a team..love your quality and professionalism in your videos.. I watch every episode knowing I will learn from you guys..just a suggestion 😊😊

  2. I have a rehab container where all my sad looking plants from the landscape go and usually end up revived and creates a nice cluster of plants with a story. My favorite container this year is a sky pencil holly mixed with dusty miller and raspberry ripple zinnia I grew from seed (stole from you guys) and the container is so full already.

  3. I’m doing mixed containers for the first time this year and in a new growing zone. I was in zone 9b and I just had amaryllis in my pots. Now I’m in zone 6b and despite watching a lot of YouTube videos for inspiration, I went to the garden center and picked out what caught my eye. 😂 I have two large round containers, each with a superbena in the back and violas and pansies in the front. A smaller round container is just one pansy with a bunch of violas. And lastly, a small round container has two strawberries in it. I’ll reuse the violas in an area they can go ham in later. I’m assuming the pansies will peter out in the heat of the summer here (high desert), but I honestly have no idea. If they do, I’ll get something to replace them. But so far so good!

Thank you for another great video! ❤

  4. I WAS going to plant up some containers today but we have another frost warning. I love coolish springs I can get more outside work done but when we keep flirting with frost warnings that becomes a little old. 🌷💚🙃

  5. I would like to get my banana plant into a container and under plant with caladiums. Also I have in mind to plant another with Waikiki colocasia and more caladiums. The third I want to plant Stuttgart cannas but I’m not sure what I want to under plant with them. Maybe more caladiums. I have a thing for ginger land caladiums and somehow I accidentally bought a few too many. 🌷💚🙃

  6. I basically grow all types of flowers and plants with no plan and build my pots with random plants I buy that are available at the big box stores. Usually add a couple petunias and call it good.

  7. I am slowly building my containers, and trying to reuse things. After years of gardening I finally have creeping jenny in a container, and within a month I had enough to add to several others!

  8. @3:00 OMG Steph what happened to your legs! JK, yes that Stained Glass colius is fabulous. I remember last time you had it on. ❤

  9. I’m a senior on a limited income and appreciate your tips for saving money.
I have the patience now to garden and with everything I’ve learned from you all I’ve worked on my yard for months to not only learn what I have, to take care of it but make it more beautiful, as well. I’ve grown 200 plants from seed and am in the process of finding places for them in my yard. I bought some cheap plastic planters and spray painted them to look like concrete. Michael’s pots are extraordinary. I also purchased some grow bags and soil3 veggie mix. My plants are beautiful. I’m getting ready to start planting in my dirt.

  10. Nice to see the Dynamic duo in front of the camera! Lol..Steph' s designs are excellent…nothing like a woman's eye! Sorry jim..lol
    Thanks for inviting us along

  11. Thank you for the great suggestions. I have variegated vinca vine in my yard and never thought to use it as a spiller in my container. Done and done.

  12. I love coleus and caladiums my coleus died back in container with our few days of freezing winter and lo & behold it has come back like a beast!!! Also it’s surrounded with blue daze ivy they all came back pretty amazing!!! Blue daze always returns and it’s easy here in NW fl.. drought tolerant and blue grey foliage…. thanks for your video great to see you two together in video!!!!❤

  13. What a fun video! I LOVEED all of these wonderful combinations! I am inspired! I liked how you used all shapes and sizes of containers. I always thought I had to have huge containers to plant different combinations of plants, but you guys have shown us you can plant some really cool combos in smaller containers as well. Spectacular creativity with the last container video and this one. I will definitely be rewatching them. Thank you so much! oh, and my favorite were all the topiaries! Fantastic idea!

  14. I used to buy different annuals every year but now have been using more shrubs and perennials in my containers. During covid, when plants were hard to purchase I started digging up plants in my landscape and using them.

  15. At the 11:00 mark, I see something BLUE and beautiful! It's to the left of the variegated boxwood. What is that? 🤩 I love planting small plants in containers, then watching them fill out and blossom. Love when you & Steph do videos together. ❤

  16. I use creeping Jenny and variegated vinca, as well as regular green vinca w/purple leaves, as spillers. I keep plants for a long time, overwinter in sunroom, propagate, and grow new plants. 7b, W. TN.

  17. ❤fun gardening thank you for sharing. Jim putnam and Stephany hello my friend. Fun fun gardening.

  18. I saw a video on Montauk Daisies that claimed that they were easy to root. When I hard pruned my mature plant in the late winter, I cut some of the material into 4” sections and filled 3 large containers. The success rate was nearly 100%. I infilled with nasturtium seeds. I am hopeful of good results once these last mature.

  19. Great suggestions for containers. I’m trying to cut down on the number of containers as it’s so much maintenance.

  20. I typically stock my containers with things propagated from scavenged cuttings and seeds, but I also can't bear to let many plants die at the end of the season, so lots are things I've overwintered in the house or garage.

  21. If you introduced some merch with thrillers spillers and fillers as the theme I'm first in line for a shirt. Also thanks for getting me more in the headspace of container gardening.

  22. Wow best video on creative container planting by far! Love how you put little trees in them as the thriller. I have two pots of Chamaecyparis Night Lights, that you highlighted one time. I tree formed and loly popped the top loosely. Just bumped them up into Black urns. Need to find that velvet stained glass coleus! Thanks again. Anyone can go purchase in bloom large plants and plop in a hole or pot, what you are doing is art.

  23. Steph, I love your clear description and specific naming of the plants. I tend to be a one-plant per pot person myself for a specific use—a restful focal point in the garden. I sometimes underplant potted evergreens with a single type of annual, such as boxwood with a white annual depending on the sun exposure. Love the great content!
