Planting Gorgeous Hydrangeas & Other Fun Shrubs | Gardening with Creekside

We are beginning to put the first “bones” of the new gardens at the chicken coop by planting gorgeous hydrangeas and two other fun shrubs. These shrubs will not only bring us beautiful blooms, but they will attract loads of beneficial pollinators to the garden!

  1. Love the rooster story! 😅
This is so fun to watch the new coop area from the very start! I know you say that you don’t have much deer pressure but I am so curious about other wildlife? Skunks? Raccoon? Anything that you have to worry about? 🤔

  2. I’m leaving soon on a mission trip to Honduras! I’m really excited. Your chicken coop and all the planting looks great!

  3. Enjoying those hydrangeas immensely! WOW! Last night the deer denied me once again of seeing mine in bloom. On a positive note at least I won’t have to trim them 🙄.

  4. Reviewing photos of the common snowball viburnum I planted a bit more than a month ago, I was surprised to see how much growth it has put on.
I love hydrangeas so this sort of extends the season since the blooms look similar.
Today, I hope to get my 'Blue Kazoo' spirea planted. Such an interesting shrub with its changing foliage colors.

  5. Jenny, while there are so many wonderful gardeners on youtube you have quickly become my favorite! I have learned so much from you about growing plants in our southern clay & heat!

Do you anticipate carrying the Bit of Honey Heliopsis or the 2024 All Eyes on Me Hibiscus? None of my local garden centers are taking requests so I’m starting to think about where I might find these two varieties next Spring.

Thank you again for being so inspirational to us southern gardeners, looking forward to watching your next project!

  6. Watching you from Delaware love the space. You order females and got males will the company give you 2 new females?

  7. Love this new area. Looking forward to watching you develop this garden. I just watched your tour of your mama's shade garden. Gorgeous! Yall are so blessed to have lots of woods and not have to worry with the deer. We back up to our neighbors 40 acres of woods and have to constantly spray and watch out for the deer. Love when you share the deer resistant plants. Thanks for all the inspiration.

  8. This is going to be so beautiful! Do you have any Phantom hydrangeas? I just planted 3 and have never heard of them before. I’m in SC 7b-8

  9. I’m in zone 8B, can anybody recommend a hydrangea best for cut flowers? Your chickens look so happy.

  10. I am getting a temple of bloom and was told you had to stake them if you wanted it to be treelike. Maybe when it is bigger?

  11. Im loving how the coop area is evolving. It looks great when you look up from the cottage garden too. Hope Mr. Rooster found a new home!

  12. The chicken bed looks glorious!! I love that chicken wire too! I have the small regular wire (with added cattle panel to keep my grand dogs out), anyway, my chickens can reach their little heads out and eat my plants. I can still plant up close, just not close enough for them to eat them!! Lol! They LOVE pretty plants to eat!! 😂😂

  13. We got 3 chickens in February. 2 ended up being roosters. We kept 1 & my sister traded us a hen for the other rooster.

  14. Everything is looking great Jenny and Jerry! I have a question about my invincible spirit 2 hydrangeas they are floppy to the ground especially after the rain, so I don’t know if I’m not pruning them right ? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks

  15. Are you planning to put some kind of walkway from your house up to the coop to get your eggs? Those bushes will glow at night.

  16. Going to be beautiful!
I saw the PW Puffer Fish
    Hydrangea-yesterday at
    Elber’s Ace Hardware!
So cute! Loved it’s blooms❤️ I get so excited when I finally see a Perennial or annual that you’ve talked about the previous year and finally see it at a local Garden Center!

    Jenny-do you have any
    experience w/Poleminium
    ‘Heaven Scent’
    Full Sun-Part shade

    Thank you!

  17. I love love love watching your videos. You are so engaging and down to earth. I see in this video you have Nellie Stevens planted and in another you have Oakland hollys – I am trying to decide between the two for a hedge. Do you have a preference? Thank you!!

  18. Oh, Jenny I’m imagining you hearing the shrill, croaking early attempts of a rooster learning to crow. The sound itself is a surprise but surely was with you thinking you had all girls. Love this whole area. I think it will be so lovely.

  19. That rooster story… 😂 This area is so charming! Just beautiful. 💚

  20. By the way, the Austrolorp is named “Jerry” now ☺️
He only roosts on heavy duty machinery and prefers the color orange. 😂
