There is a new supernova that is so bright and yet, so far far away. This supernova is 21 million light-years away but it shines as bright as some of the stars in our own Milky Way galaxy. It is now visible with small backyard telescopes. Take a look at what I saw and compare that to a view of the same galaxy a year ago.

I hope I'm not around when Betelgeuse dies. It's one of my most favorite stars and it would break my heart to see that star go. To be honest, I don't want to be around to see the stars in our sky go supernova or die to become a black hole. I heard that the Alpha star in Scorpius isn't going to live that long which is also sad. I hate the fact that our Blue Supergiants don't live that long either.
I mean, I know it's part of a star's life, but it still makes me sad.
I guess it's the fact that I'm a stargazer that I want to see them while they are still alive and not dead because they can also be treated like a map in some ways.
Definitely a bucket list capture I think. Hopefully we can get to capture one down this way some time (but not too close 🤔). The garden is certainly looking good there Pat. We just picked our first broccoli today which now wipes away a childhood trauma when, as a kid having a vege garden, I left the broccoli just a little too long and ended up with bouquets 💐🤣. Thanks for sharing this video. Orion EON 130mm seems to be a good refractor. Do you use any field flattener or reducer with it?
I managed to image the Supernova a few nights ago, its really bright. Makes me wonder if Alien astronomers observed it from within M101 millions of years ago.

Unfortunately with the wild fire smoke from Canada unable to see do to haze. Hopefully will clear before it fades.
Truly amazing. I captured this, my first supernova last week from a dark sky spot on vacation to the south of England. I cant help but think of any civilization around that star 21 million years ago.
