  1. Very informative video as a beginner gardener. This will be my second season and I enjoy the weather and gardening a lot lately. I didn't knew about dead heading daffodils after blooming for a stronger bulb. I will get my garden sisccors out tomorrow. Last year I seeded a lot of foxgloves and I replanted a lot of them to give them more space. I also transplanted a few to my backyard border. I will continue to water them after transplanting, but so far I noticed that they are though plants and caterpillars don't like them. Last year I took some small plantlets out between the big ones. At first I thought they were not going to make it, but they are coming back strong. The old dried leaves was a perfect refuge for a ladybird colony during the early spring frost. For me this plant is definitely a keeper💪🏻👍🏻🌿🌺

  2. I think the eclectic mix of tulip colors works especially with the euphorbia mixing through out the border. Lovely!

  3. Again another great video! I planted my tulips 12 inches deep last fall and hopefully they will come back year after year. Regarding your tulips, I think the current way they look is amazing! Colorful, natural and relaxed, no need to redo them! I have never planted euphorbia robbiae before. I wonder if you pull them out after spring, do you replant them again in the fall every year? How do they work as perennials in your border?

  4. I enjoy your videos. I live in the Caribe and admire how you develop beautiful gardens in a windy and cool climate!!

  5. Thanks for the tips and reminders. We mulch with compost in the fall and every couple of years we put on new wood chips. The chips keep the weeding to a real minimum. My solution to a clashing mix of tulips is to cut those whose colours don't fit. Then I've got bouquets for the house or for gifts, and my colour scheme is more cohesive.

  6. Loved this video! Tulips 12" deep was my fave tip. I mixed peat moss, top soil & compost manure to spread around base of shrubs, trees and flowers. It literally brought a viburnam back from dying and is now as glorius as others who didnt have issues. The mix also helps with retaining water around roots. Loved your tip to plant bulbs under deciduous trees. I also dont dig or til. Thnx!

  7. Thank you so much for sharing! I learned a lot. 🙂 I am learning more about parterres, and would love to know more about yours, how you chose it, take care of it, etc. Also, I was thinking that because you wanted to keep the foxglove that selfseeded, that it makes you a wonderful gardener! I get your point though, but I love that you kept it and will give some extra TLC to the other plant. Lovely all around and thoroughly enjoyed. Paula

  8. Though I'm sure if you rearrange them they'll be great, I actually like the combination of tulip colors that you have right now. To me they make an unexpected combination that works. Just thought I'd mention that. : )

  9. How do you balance mulching and at the same time not suppressing the wanted self-seeders that need light to germinate like poppies? Is there some ideal time frame to allow both garden wishes to be filled?

  10. I will try the tip of planting tulips deeper. I really had given up on them, but part of that is the deer going right for them in the salad buffet. Now that I have a dog, perhaps they will move along.

  11. Oh my, what a lovely garden! This is really beautiful. And actually I love the way the tulips are — you might see them as not perfect, and maybe to you its an odd mix of colors, and not so great that in some cases there's just one tulip, etc… but this makes it look natural. And I'm an artist and will tell you that sometimes it's a good thing to put colors together that you would think clash, such as orange and light pink. What this does is create interest, plus it doesn't look so contrived. I see all the different colors in the tulips and to me it is magical.

Also, thank you for the tip to plant tulips 12" deep. I've never done that nor have I heard of it, but will certainly be giving it a try this fall.

  12. Hi Alexandra, thank you so much for all your videos they have been helping me so much as I start my garden… Can I ask you about the Euphorbia, when you say you pull it up… Do you mean pull just some of it out at the root or do you snip it all off to ground level, to keep it from taking over the flowerbed?

  13. hi.. I am confused on no dig garden of adding mulch in any form in perrinal garden.
would that also stop self seeding of some plant like foxglove etc?
Also over the time adding layer upon layer of much will Burry the plant/ crown itself resulting it in not performing well or may even die??
    thanks

  14. How brave of you to allow Euphorbia robbei run in the border it would swamp me in our damp climate. Love your video.

  15. My princess irene tulips are also quite low which was a surprise. I am glad you mentioned the reason why they aren’t as tall as they should be. Very informative video, thank you 🙂

  16. My tip for weeding is to just do a small section per day.
That way you don't procrastinate and it's no big deal. Before you know it you can't drag yourself out of the garden !

  17. I always look forward to these videos and am pleased to hear your practical advice. Thank you for sharing your lovely garden with us.
