Mark Dimmitt’s PLANT OASIS in the DESERT — Ep. 336

When traveling through Tucson, everyone mentioned that I must see “Mark Dimmitt”—a biologist by trade but also a plant breeder and aficionado in life. Mark’s Tucson home has sprawling cacti and colorful greenhouses that are abounding in a range of plants—from Adenium to Phalaenopsis. His biggest pursuit in plant breeding is to find the perfect crimson red in a range of flowers, which he’ll take us through in this video.

  1. I have a Eucharis, they aren't as common anymore. But it grew from a single leaf cutting into multiple clusters in only a few years and has flowered once with gorgeous white daffodil like flowers.

  2. Another outstanding video showcasing the another one of Tucson's botanically brilliant! I recommend a video on B&B Cactus Farm, its another jewel of Tucson that is a must-see!

  3. Wow love Mark Dimmit's collection. Haha love how unashamedly he is into extreme colours "I want them so red they hurt the eyes" or whatever he actually said 😀

  4. Its not good swalow the seeds of jabuticaba. If you swalow a lot of seeds its will be dificulty to poop lol. But whatever the jabuticaba is the best fruit along with pitanga(eugenia)

  5. Stunningly beautiful! His orchid taste is very similar to mine… LOVE the psychopsis!

  6. I am a cacti addict. Does Mark Dimmitt sell to the public? I’m loving your videos in Arizona—and all your videos, including Finger Lakes.

  7. Another great episode. Thanks for the tip in this episode and one of the previous episodes about how some Adeniums go limp in low humidity. I moved my plants to a greenhouse where the humidity stays above 60% after hearing that discussion in a previous episode. The plants have already started to perk up.

  8. Like all the field trips …Mr. producer , can U do a part 1 and part 2? ( nx day stuff)? In place of 1 loooonnngg 😢segment. A lot of times I leave after 25ish minutes then forget 2 watch the other….minutes.
U have an amazing talent for filming…just don't know why U aren't working somewhere and paying the locals to supply labor for the Flock project. 😢

  9. WOW WOW WOW That was amazing! So lucky to be around such beauty for work. Well done to Mark. Super impressive. Thank you both for the tour. I’m located in Australia and have never seen a Dendrobium before. I will have to try hunt one down.

  10. When I grow up I wanna be just like Mr.D ..I love color also.
    makes me happy!
Amazing episode thanks for inviting us along

  11. Enjoy watching nicola white mudlark, day trip, also sarah burns studio day trip…
Succulents and cactus … in S.Florida is a fun garden. 😊 Ann

  12. Gorgeous place, great video, thank you very much for sharing. Loved the orchids too! Mark is very knowledgeable and gives us great tips! Thanks very much for the tour , enjoyed thoroughly 😊! Happy growing 😀

  13. He mentioned he sells his plants. What is the name of his nursery or his contact information?

  14. Oh my god ! What a fabulous collection from hot desert conditions desert plants to adeniums to totally contrasting environment of orchids and that too mind boggling colours, variety and range. Incredible! Thank you Summer ! You are a star ! 🥰🥰🥰🤎🤎💚💚💚💚💚💚💚

  15. Such an amazing collection! I've never seen so many adeniums and absolutely love the caudex + prolific blooming combo and would gladly take one of his "failed reds" lol.

  16. I am gob smacked! Thank you Mark Dimmitt for sharing your oasis! The tour of collection and hybrids, the knowledge, the conversation, the shear beauty that exists! I loved when you said "pink is a failed red" 😆 Also, if I ever see A.arabicum "stumpy" on PokeomonGo. I've gotta catch him! Summer Rayne Oakes, I so much adore the field trips. So many interests of people in the Botanical World! I do follow Flock Fingers Lakes. But I must tell you. Just 2 days ago, I began listening to the Podcast "Bad Seeds". I am NOT a podcast follower. However, I realize now how I can fiddle with my plants and listen to an extraordinary program other than music. So much so, that I need to relisten to the podcast for book suggestions from the library. A very intriguing podcast! Your just awsome! ❤️
