How to for Edible Flowers – Part 1 | Hydroponics | Indoor Gardening | Indoor farming

💥This video is Part 1 of our two part series for growing Edible Flowers in a indoor hydroponic grow system called a Flood and Drain! In this video you we cover How we plant our edible flowers and grow them in this type of system. Below we have links for Part 2 – which covers how to clean a flood and drain system – along with links to our DIY how to build a flood and drain system for cheap videos! We even provided a list of edible flowers to grow for selling that we personally love!

✅ If you don’t know what this type of manual grow system is – A flood and drain hydroponic system aka Ebb and Flow system works by using flood tables that have a single submersible pump that is placed in the reservoir, and timer is set to periodically flood the trays with hydroponic nutrient water 1 to 15 times a day (we run it 3 times daily) and for about 15 minute. After the flood cycle is complete, the pump shuts off and the nutrient solution flows back into the reservoir back through the pump via gravity.

💥This type of grow system is great at automatically watering crops for you so that you do not have to manually water your plants. You can use a F&D system like this to grow small leafy greens, edible flowers, herbs, microgreens and more! This kind of system is also very easy to maintain.

And whenever we are choosing a grow system to build for our edible flowers we always go with a flood and drain system for ours, which we typically use the hydroponic nutrient Master Blend – as it gives really great results in green foliage and budding flowers. Farmers pride and Foxfarm also have great choices for hydroponic nutrients!

The estimated total for this is about $645.20 for all components (not including tools) – we have all of the supplies linked blow! And don’t forget to look at our “Builds” playlist on our YouTube Channel for any updates on this type of grow system!

  1. Thank you Mandi for granting me my edible flowers request. I will be flowing a long keenly.
How long they take to sprout?
How long they take to grow after sprouting?

  2. Great video! Have you considered growing any Asiatic Dayflower? I once surprised my wife with a couple of them as a garnish on her brunch salad over the summer (wild, not propagated) and she loved them. The true-blue really popped with the red garnet amaranth on romaine. Thanks for helping to make more people aware of edible flowers!

  3. Thanks for starting this series. I have not invested in a humidity dome yet; I use the larger clam shells (that spring mix salad come in at the grocery store) to house my rock wool cubes. It has worked well so far, but would like to upgrade as my number of starts increases. Looking forward to your follow-on videos.

  4. Hi Mandi, thanks for the video
I wanted to know if the humidity dome method mentioned-can also be used to grow seeds for micro greens

  5. Omg!! I love all of your videos, the way you explain and open ur heart out to us. Thanks for sharing knowledge. I also wanted to know that what all can we grow indoors including microgreens and edible flowers. Also it would really sweet if you could tell me which all edible flowers can we grow under grow lights hydroponically.

  6. I like flowers a lot and I use it for my dishes. You have an Interesting channel. Best wishes from JAIME COCINA like 243

  7. Can you suggest me lights to grow edible flowers? Will the Barrina Burple be good for that or is there a better light? Because I only want to do 1 shelf of the edible flowers for my family at home, the cost for the light doesn't matter as long as the quality of flowers I get is high.

  8. Hi, guys! Thank you for makinno this video. I was just a little curious as to getting more details on the process you were describing. How are we bottom watering that medium? Could you do the detailed step by step the way you do for microgreens. Sorry if you have other videos like these. This was the first one I saw after searching for the topic. Thx!

  9. Hi..! I see that you have a lot of 'Patience'..wow….2 seeds per-hole YAH! I'll watch you finish this video. Good content. Peace : )

  10. My rockwool doesn't have holes. How deep do I make the holes?
For how long do you use the heat mat? Thank you!

  11. This is all very beautiful. My only concern is the profits. 90 days of pumps and lighting is alot of costs until the plant is ready.

  12. Always enjoy watching and learning from your videos 🙂 One question: what is the distance between your trays and lights? How close is too close? Thanks
