Thanks, so much, Luke! You are a wealth of information and wisdoms for us to rely on.
Do you plant your August zucchin as seeds or plants? And do you plant them in the same bed, along with the full grown planted Zucchini?
Thank you Luke, I was pruning my zucchini plant earlier today. I did it correctly 😊Thanks for helping us to go better gardens. Im in Michigan also. My order of garlic is on its way. Im going to revisit how to grow garlic shortly.
I can't seem to get Zucchini to grow. I alot of male flowers, no female flowers. Two years in a row . Would like to try again next spring. Help please. NC zone 8a
I seem to be able to grow absolutely anything except zucchini. Had four plants this year and got about 5 or 6 fruits total. Just cant get them to produce female flowers that survive long enough to open.
Fantastic video thanks for sharing your experience in the garden 🪴 And do you know when you will be restocking your seeds in your store??
Good to know 👍 Thank you very much for sharing.
I had 4 zucchini plants, it only produced 3 zucchini this summer! last year I have 3 zucchini per week from 3 plants.
I staked my bush zucchini with 3' tomato cages and the cages never stood a chance, they fell over almost immediately and the plant just continued to grow along the ground
I used the 1c milk with 3 c of water it worked best
Just got my garlic today! I’m SO excited! I have a space but need to dig out the Virginia clay and amend the soil before I plant it! I can’t wait to harvest it!!! This is one of the coolest things I’ve ever done! Thank you for sending good instructions! I feel a big WIN coming on here!!!!!❤
I gave up on zucchini due to heavy pest pressure. We always get a ton of borers, and they destroy everything that isn't a butternut squash. We also get two waves of them, so planting later in the season doesn't really help. Other than completely covering the zucchini with mesh cloth and manually pollinating them, I can't think of a way to grow them.
vine borers wipe out all the plants before they even fruit, making squash a constant disappointment. any strategies for stopping vine borers?
You have reached your peak with this video
My biggest problem with Zucchini is vine bores since I moved to South Carolina. All the time I was in Arizona, never had that problem, never even heard of them until I moved here. Amazing how fast they can completely kill a healthy plant.
Very nicely organized narrative, and great videography. One of the best! 👏
Mine didn't do well this year. With extreme humidity, even with pruning and baking soda spray, couldn't save them from powdery mildew–and it's still raining. Rough year for my cucumbers, too. 😭 When did you plant your fall zucchini? I missed the mark.
Because of my 'soil' – hard packed clay filled with rocks, I plant in totes. I've always put tomato cages for my Z to grow in and also used twigs, etc through them to help hold their weight.
When you have the powdery mildew and you remove the leaves, should you put the bad leaves in the green waste bin or in the compost?
You are right about planting different varieties. This summer our yellow zucchini did amazing. I'll bet we got 20 or more squash off of it. My regular zucchini did not do that well. I replanted them for late summer and I am getting a few now. But now the deer are eating off all of the leaves which I didn't know they would do.
How many zucchini can you assume on average to yield per plant ?
Thanks, Luke, for clarifying pruning for plants that grow a single stalk and fruit off that. But, what about varieties like Long White of Palermo, which produce long vines like winter squash, and lots of them. Is it ever appropriate to prune those? Thanks again. ~ Lisa
The question begs, what have you done to your hair and why?
Growing vertically is where it's at.
Besides tomatoes, zucs are my #2 favorite plant to grow. Savory or sweet there is so much to do with them and I had geat success in previous years. Going to try to stand them up next year just to make more room in the garden. I had ants stealing the pollen from my zucs. I thought it was normal until it became a bigger problem this year. I saw a video you made about getting rid of them around zuc/squash. Also need to amend more soil. Definately more prepared for next year!
Squash bugs did our Golden Zucchini & Black Beauty squash in. I sprayed BT & Dead Bug but they won. So I pulled them after I pruned them to death (from boriers damage) and they stopped producing blooms, that was first of Aug.
Now I'm struggling to keep the bugs from killing off my Butternut & newly planted Spaghetti squash & cucumbers!
Its bad when you're spraying the BT & squishing they bugs with your feet at the same time!! Lol
Use Vic’s Vapor Rub to deter mosquitoes. Dab it on like perfume, behind ears, inner elbows, neck, wrists, ankles, behind knees , etc…. Doesn’t have to be thick. Thin layer. Let me know how this works for you.
Thanks Luke! I needed this video! Question, whoch type of fertilizer dobyou use for your later harvest?
2 of my sugar snap peas just suddenly got covered in powdery mildew. I could not remember how you said to treat it, I've been trying to write everything down this year to have a garden journal but ended up pulling the plants. Also prefer the non salon look. Just my preference
I have summer and zucchini replanted and its doing great…NO squash bugs.
Thank you! Such great advice. I had great plans to stake and prune this year but the plants just didn't do well in the weird weather and only gave male flowers.
