When it comes to planting tomatoes, the 2 most common ways are down deep or in a trench. Planting in a deep hole works great if you have good soil. With the roots deeper in the ground, the plants will be able to handle drought a lot better. But if you have poor soil, or your garden is in an area that stays wet, you can benefit greatly from planting the tomatoes horizontally in a shallow trench. Both methods work great, and have their advantages and disadvantages. So, which one is best?
