Japanese maples make a great addition to outdoor landscaping and patio gardens. These trees are resilient and handle pruning and training very well. This video goes in depth about pruning for a bonsai shape, how to care for a Japanese maple after pruning, and what tools are best for the job. The Japanese maple featured in this video grew from the stump of a 15+ year old Japanese maple that was damaged and regrew with vigor. Check back in for updates!

  1. Love your videos! Just to know on the Red Dragon Japanese maple that was damaged, the tree that you have now is just the rootstock of the red dragon. It appears that when the tree was damaged oh, that it was broken far enough down where it is below the graft Where The Red Dragon was grafted to. As a result the tree that you are left with now is the species Acer palmatum, and not the cultivar of the Red Dragon. As you can see the new growth is coming out very close to the ground which is below the original graft, and that the leaves are a completely different shape then the red dragon leaves. So instead of a weeping Red Dragon oh, now you have an upright Acer palmatum species tree that'll grow upright to about 15 or 20 ft. And as you can see the tree will no longer be read but will stay that green color forever.
