  1. Maybe it’s all the lush greenery, but this felt soothing and invigorating all at once. The towns were almost fairytale-like in their appearance, and the areas of running water added even more whimsy. The forest was definitely the best part in my opinion. So much to take in and discover.

  2. Big fat pipe dream: retrace some of your hikes and this one is in the top!

  3. A new spot on my Japan Travel list! If it wasn`t for this video I would`ve never heard of this trail and I love hiking! Are the bears dangerous to humans?

  4. Hi there, thank you for sharing the beautiful video~ I wanna ask if it is safe to have solo hike alone? Especially for a girl? Thanks you!!

  5. Good day! Question: How do I buy a bus ticket departing Magome back to the big city( eg Nagoya). Is there a bus station to buy them. Or board the respective bus and pay cash as we arrive/ leave the bus. Many thanks!:)

  6. I've always wanted to go to Japan. I've always worked really hard since i was young teenager with huge focus on developing a strong ethic, but never afforded much more than basic necessities in my 36yrs of life.. "work smarter rather than harder" some might say, but i do that too, I'm a very skilled individual, possibly more skilled than many billionaires. It's just a simple lacking of monetary leverage and base capital that my upbringing didn't have which causes the perpetuation/depreciation of my position unlike if I had a greater monetary wealth starting point I'd be able to multiply that and do progressively better (rich get richer, poor get poorer – fact). That being said.. travel is impossible in my foreseeable future unfortunately. I may be able to afford it in my 50s (if any savings and investments i hypothetically make have a decent return). It sucks being in this position, BUT, I'm thankful that where I live is beautiful enough and if I go to the beach I can be in Thailand or Hawaii in my mind, or when I go for a bush walk and the zacattas are singing, it's no different than walking the Nakasendo trail in summer, minus the bears and beautiful traditional architecture and paths. Watching these videos inspires me and transports me, It's not the same obviously, but its enough. Thank you, I'm very grateful for content like this 🙂

  7. Was lucky enough to book a roykan in magome for the end of November 😀 Do you think fall leaves would still be plentiful around this time?

  8. I remember watching this while I was absolutely wrecked with a fever. Let's say the experience was absoluteley ethereal

  9. Fantastic video!! I love NHK for putting out videos like this. The excitement of the hiker is really cool!!!
Thank you everyone involved in this!!!!

  10. Such a beautiful video. I felt genuinely happy for Norm when he found the spot he remembered.

  11. I just did this on Wednesday and it was great! Thanks for inspiring my day trip out of Kyoto!! I ended up hiking both ways. But word of this hike has gotten out! There were quite a few foreign tourists later in the day! Just get there early and save exploring Magome for when you get back and you'll be virtually alone on the trail. I mean, aside from the bears 🐻 But I never saw any. Also, there is a tiny detour presently due to a landslide, but it leads you past two little waterfalls. The guy running the tea house at the pass is a hoot!

  12. Man… that was a beautiful journey. Just recently followed but I've been binging all your videos and all the tiny apartments, this was a nice change of pace haha. Gotta do that trail one day.

  13. How is this trail during October? Im planning a trip to Japan next October and this is one of the things I really want to do

  14. This is so beautiful. I just did an amazing hike in New York to see some leaves. Worth the climb up the mountain
