How much space so you have for your garden?
I have late season tomatoes and peppers outside and one Giant Crimson in the greenhouse with 7 tomatoes starting on it.. I planted some 2nd season potatoes this year and they did good plus a few volunteer potatoes that i missed earlier this season… keep up the good work!
Our temps in NC keep bouncing around. This week 80s, next week 50s🙄anyway it’s always good to challenge yourself and see what’s still growing as we head into winter. I am definitely going to overwinter some pepper plants so I’ll be looking for your video. Thanks for always challenging us!
I wish I could have exposed beds and berries. The bloody birds in my garden would eat & scratch everything if left exposed
I have cherry tomato plants that went in the garden in March. Got a great spring and early summer harvest and decided to see if I can get them through the heat of the remaining summer, (Zone 8B – Texas). It got up over 115 some days here. But they pulled through and now there are around 300 – 400 green cherry tomatoes on these plants and just today I got 2 ripe ones. I'm thinking by next week my windowsill will be getting overcrowded with them. As for woody beets Luke. I think them not getting woody has to do with your climate/location. Pretty sure that in the south it's very common for that to happen with the heat here.
I wish my kale looked like that. Harlequin bugs absolutely destroyed it.
Planted my fall garden in here in Chicago land in August. Slugs ate almost all of my lettuce 9regardless of diatomaceous earth and coffee grounds), collards greens haven't grown an inch past 5", and kale refused to germinate. *sigh*…….but my bean stalks look pretty (no beans yet).
Arugula tastes and smells like Diesel fumes to me. I tried growing it and almost threw up when I tried it, and had to wash my hands thoroughly to get the smell off. I pulled them all up and didn’t feel bad at all. Only thing I’ve ever not been able to eat. So weird.
Lavender chicken…lots of recipes online. 😊
First frost is coming this weekend to Western Oregon. If I'm not mistaken, it's two weeks earlier than expected! At least my summer garden is mostly done.
I saved zinnia seeds this year. I was very picky about my keepers & experimenting with winter sowing & mulch w/questionable seeds. It isn’t a loss either way. They will grow or mulch that space, so win win.
I just got a bunch of seeds for next year. The house I'm renting is being sold. I didn't plant any garlic because I don't know if it'll be kept as a rental or if I'll have to move. I did buy some grow bags so if things are still up in the air come spring, I'll be able to take my garden with me if necessary!
If you had some of those warm season plants in a greenhouse you would have great production.
Do you get a slug problem with bok choy?
Got my fall/winter garden going and my seeds have sprouted! So happy! Carrots, beets, lettuce, turnips, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, so many things! This is my main growing season here in the south where it’s too hot to grow much all summer. Now is the sweet spot where everything wants to grow grow grow! I love it so much! It makes me so happy! 🥰It’s my busiest gardening season truly. I’m not mad about it. I try to squeeze every last crop out of the garden this time of year. No downside, the temps are moderate to cool, the insect pressure is lessening, the rainy season starts going again…all good things meaning less work for me except for all the harvesting and preservation of course. 😉
Hey, I'm growing fall eggplant also. I left them in the grow tray by my shed they were about 6" tall then. I planted them in the middle of September they are a little bigger than yours but they have several eggplants on them about 4" long and were flowering more last month. I'm by Lake Michigan just south of Holland. If you want some information on them so you have more data let me know. I can send pictures if it helps. I plan to leave them as long as they are growing this year.

Snow the last two days
There was swiss chard in my family's garden, and it was cold tolerant in winter, but when we let it grow all winter long, it wasn't dead, it was still alive and got bigger thicker taller. It gave us hard time to pull it out later, after hard working of rooting it up, we found the swiss chard wouldn't be edible because its stem became too thick almost woody, callous. It wasn't delicious at all. So we just brought it to a boil hoping if we could make it more flexible or soften but failed. We couldn't help discarding them all. Late fall or early winter might work. But if it's already passing the middle of the winter, even if the plants are quite resilient to harsh cold weather, at least it will be no good for your diet, saying from our own experience.
