Today I’m making my 2021 application of elemental Sulphur to the lawn; it’s largely my final step in adjusting my soil pH down every so slightly. At the beginning of the lawn season this year my pH averaged around 6.8 to 6.9 and my target pH for Spring 2022 is 6.5.
Most of my videos on this channel are targeted towards the lawn care community but the information presented in this video also applies to gardeners. I am a gardener too so I would know. I finish this video off with a short garden tour just for the fun of it.
► Most importantly for my viewers I’d like you to see this video where I explain the details behind pH adjustments to the acidic side of the spectrum: https://youtu.be/LXQ9WxSzJ_M
► You can also see my analysis of my soil pH and how home pH test kits work right here: https://youtu.be/rR1SaO8j5QA
Earlier in the season this year I took a few additional steps to lower my soil pH. These actions would work well enough in the garden if not better than they do in the lawn. You can see what actions I took in the following videos:
► Step 1 – Lowering pH With Ammonium Sulfate Fertilizer & Peat Moss: https://youtu.be/bTCBEWRxF1k
► Step 2 – Mid-Spring Application of Urea Acidifying Fert: https://youtu.be/qVsEy3N_7GM
To acidify your soil elemental Sulphur is the way to go but you can’t expect results until at least a few months pass.
► I buy my elemental Sulphur locally at my home gardening supply store but the product is easily available online. Here’s an Amazon affiliate link to a product I’d buy for myself it I didn’t have an easy local source: https://www.amazon.com/Walts-Elemental-Sulfur-Pellets-LB/dp/B00RZR67BC/?tag=turfmechanicyt-20

Thank You Brian!
Good one Brian!! I really must get a soil test asap and before my fall reno, because I've been fertilizing, it worked well, but not the right way when you're trying to get better…
Love the garden tour! Do you have a composting system that utilizes the chicken manure? I get my chicken manure from a friend that has chickens.
Made me go double check the blueberries. Our native soil here in Melbourne is between 6 and 6.5 and we used sulphur, we are now between 4.5 and 5.5 which is perfect.
Sulphur is a slow process, one thing I am not sure you touched on. But it is a forever process, you will need to reapply or the native pH will come back.
You could probably test my lawn in different areas and get all different readings. Mis match soils its is
you need about 50 grams (big handful) per square metre. that little bag of sulfur for whole lawn, not going to do much. need even more in a highly calcium buferred soil. hard to find cheap bulk sulfur sources.
So it takes about a year to actually see the ph decrease? So it is slowly working in the winter too?
Glad I found this video, i took a sample of my soil in the spring and didn’t have a PH issue. I had some 57 limestone rock brought to my backyard through the side yard. Needless to say, I had to reseed half that side of the yard after raking most of the dropped limestone rock out. The grass that grew was not dark green and I ordered “Dr Iron” thinking it might be an iron problem before watching this video. Fortunately it contains 55% Sulfur supposedly derived from elemental sulfur. Should I put that down now before the winter or wait until a soil sample next spring? Our temps are in the 40s-60s in Ohio. I would hate to waste a purchase. Thank you.
Whats the difference between elemental sulfur and normal sulfur powder? Because i have sulfur powder at home
Good video Brian, I did this today.
Thanks for the tips
Very Vane creature to have braces in adult life. Do you also cross dress?
