Have not watered it since getting it. I also noticed white substance near the root. Just confused how it even happened. Can it rot from just pure humidity?

I had one, repotted but never watered as it was splitting slowly. 6 months later (still never watered) it randomly rotted out one day.

I… Don’t buy split rocks any more lol.

But being serious, ambient humidity is a factor and was likely the cause of my death. If I’d just watered wrong I would just get another and learn from my error. But if my climate is wrong then I just find other things to grow instead.

  3. What kind of light was it getting? It also looks odd like it is missing some leaves.

I have bought 4 different split rocks from different Etsy suppliers. One hasn’t done anything since buying it. Looks a lot like yours, but I see a leaf inside that hasn’t pushed out yet. The outer leaves are turning a lighter color now have no clue what it’s doing; however, my other split rocks are doing great. They’re beautifully purple now and one is about to flower. I water them less and have more confidence in them than my lithop skills. Don’t give up, if it were me I’d take it out and cut the roots make sure there’s a healthy root system. Then I would plant it in Bonsai Jack Gritty Mix they seem to love it. I water sparingly on the ones that have leafs in the middle maybe once a month. They are under very bright indoor plant lights and lots of sun coming in the window now. The humidity is perfect and temperature is good in the house. Will see!

It could have dried rotted.. basically rotted from the inside out.
