It had a very shallow root system when I received it, so I thought it wasn’t likely to establish (which I frankly wasn’t that concerned about since it was the C. burgeris in the same package that I was fussing over more!), but it seems to be ok. From memory it’s one of the easier-to-cultivate Conophytums. I dunno, I really just don’t care about it other than rotate the pot every so often (since it’s on a windowsill).
By the way, that’s akadama you’re using as your top-dressing, right?

[Here](https://imgur.com/a/om7VZB6) is mine. They’re my first conos and they’re surprisingly very easy to take care of imo. I have them for less than a year and they’ve already doubled in size. They’re in 99% inorganic, mainly lava rocks and surprisingly quite thirsty.

I’ve had one for several years and it has over twenty heads on it. Sadly, I can’t figure out how to post a picture of it!

All of mine died suuuper fast. Either overwatering, under watering, or wrong substrate. I gave up and got lithops instead lol.
