How to make a brick raised garden planter

This video is about how to make a brick planter with a built in soak away. This planter is built out off reclaimed bricks

Today we’re going to be making a planter so we’re going to need to set out the footings we’re going to have this three bricks wide and an extra one just know where our big line is for our base i’m going to do that over this side as well

Dig this bit out about six inches down and then we’re going to concrete it and we’re also going to put a soak away in [Applause] now we have our piping set and a half all the way around just so when we concrete all the concrete doesn’t get into the crevices and

Fill up what we’re doing so we’ll do the same on the other side so we’ve got two planters going on here all right i’ll carry on with that and we’ll get mixing up right now we have all our concrete mixed up roughly poured in there we’re gonna go in the corner here and

Allow brick but 10 mil down so we’ll set that and then we’ll transfer the hole level all the way across So we’re going to insert our pipes and lay them on the concrete and what we’re going to do is just push one side down just like that both sides just give it a little float what’s gonna do is when it rains or over water it it’s gonna find this channel and it’s

Gonna go down to our little soak away right we’ll let them set now for an hour or two and we’ll pull them out all right so now our pipes have been in the cement for a couple of hours we’ll just take them out so just give them a little twist

And there we are all right so now all our concrete’s gone off we’re gonna get these out the way so we don’t trip over them so now we’ve got our gully we put a 32 mil pipe in so we’ve got a 32 mil spade we’re gonna insert that into our pipe

There we are we’ll do the other side and we’ll be ready to allow bricks all right now we’re ready to lay some bricks Well these are how the planters have turned out i can’t wait to get some plants in there they are going to look lovely well i hope you enjoyed watching i’ve enjoyed making them and i’m going to enjoy putting some nice plants in don’t forget to like and subscribe and do join us

On how we do our herringbone car so take care You

  1. If you live on sand like Perth WA don't even bother with a drainage hole or Concrete
Just dig out your trench where the bricks are going, throw in 50mm of brickie sand, smash it down with a wacha packa and lay you bricks. You only need a concrete base for support structures where a large loading is designed for. KISS Keep it simple Stupid πŸ˜‚

  2. I understand the reasoning for cementing the bottom in an attempt to thwart diggers and ants but, if you don’t make the walls tall enough, they can jump, climb or crawl over if they want to bad enough. Still, I love your idea and it is just beautiful! P.S. I’m in Texas and fire ants took over my raise bed and killed my broccoli. Hope you have better luck.

  3. So the drainage pipe you put in, where does that water go to?
I’m a bit thick so just wondering where it drains too?
This is just kind wall I need.

  4. Amazing job!!! How many bricks (roughly) did you order to get those two planters up? I want to do mine but not sure how many should i order

  5. Hi great job and great vid.. just a question. What did you put ontop of the drian pipe and channel to stop the dirt from going in there and blocking it. Would really appreciate your advise thanks in advance
