This New REMOVABLE HOOPHOUSE Design Will Change The Way You Garden!

In this video, I share how to build a hoophouse on a raised bed garden that is 100% removable and can be built in 1 hour with everyday tools. This hoop house fits over any raised bed garden and can be used to grow vegetables all year long. This new removable hoophouse design will change the way you garden forever!

Hoop houses are not just for winter gardening. They can and should be used year-round. They can be outfitted with insect netting in spring and fall to prevent insect pests, shade cloth in the summer to protect against sun stress, drought and reduce irrigation needs, and used with row covers or greenhouse plastic in winter to protect against frost and cold temperatures. My goal is to install a hoop house on all my raised beds, because they make gardening 10X easier!

What’s growing on gardeners over the years I have showed you how to build hinged hoop houses retractable hoop houses modular hoop houses that you can pick up and relocate to any place in your garden well on today’s video I’m going to show you what may be my best

Design of all time and that is the removable hoop house and this will forever change the way you grow vegetables in your garden if you’re new to the Channel Please Subscribe and hit the Bell to receive new video notifications and check out our Amazon store and spreadshop links in the video

Description for everything I use in my garden an awesome custom designed apparel and other gear your support is greatly appreciated and before I get into this video I will place a link down in the video description that is an organized playlist that has all of my different hoop house designs over the

Years placing hoop houses over my various raised beds has changed the way I grow food forever it has made my life so much easier I cover them with agricultural fabric to keep my plants warmer in the winter I cover them with insect netting in the spring and fall to

Keep the bugs off so I don’t have to spray and I cover them with shade cloth in the summer to keep the harsh sun off my plants and they grow so much better as a result because these hoop structures make my life so much easier

It is my end goal to place one over every single one of my garden beds so I never have to grow anything outside of cover again for this reason I’ve been trying to perfect the hoop house design for years and the truth is the simplest designs have always been the best for me

I like these basic hoop houses where I just take some conduit clamps and I just clamp the pipes to the sides of the raised beds but there is a problem with this design and that is eventually the Sun is going to wear out these pipes they’re going to have to be replaced and

When that day comes I’m going to have to unscrew all of these conduit clamps which is going to damage the wood and I’m going to have to reinstall new conduits so for that reason I have finally come up with a design that fixes all of those problems and the way we’re

Going to accomplish that is this instead of strapping a/ in PVC pipe or electrical conduit Direct directly to the sides of our beds we are going to use this 1in EMT conduit and we’re going to strap them strategically as placeholders and then we are going to

Insert our PVC Hoops into it that will allow the PVC Hoops to be completely removable and interchangeable so right here we have our 1-in EMT conduit you can see the halfin PVC will fit directly into it and that is our perfect fit that is going to hold the Hoops in place now

Remember this video is a general guide I’m building this for a 4T X 10t raised bed that is 8 in deep you will need to customize this for your exact setup that being said I will place a materials list of everything that I used for this exact

Build and I will place direct links down in the video description for all of the parts that you can order online for the items that you can’t order online like the 10ft sticks of conduit I bought them all at Lowe’s the big box stores stock all of them

Because my raised beds are made out of 2x8s they’re a little bit over 7 in tall so I am going to cut this EMT conduit into 6in sections and strap these 6in sections onto the sides of my beds and in order to do that I’m going to use one

Of these EMT conduit Cutters which I will link to down in the video description and these are really easy to use all you have to do is just place it exactly where you want it to be and then you tighten it not super tight but tight

Enough to get a grip and you’re going to start spinning it around in a circle and that is going to slowly cut the pipe so now we’re going to tighten it cut it a few more times and rotate it around and that cut is going to get deeper and

Deeper and there you go I have a perfect 6in pipe section and these tools also come with a little deburring tool so you you can take off any of the uh any of the shards of metal that may stick out so they don’t cut you and I’m going to

Make six of these total because for my 10t wide raised beds that’s the perfect amount for me now that we have the EMT conduit exactly where we want it to be we’re going to place one of the conduit clamps on and we are going to pre-drill

Each of the holes because that is going to prevent our wood from splitting then we are going to attach it with 1 and 1/4 in wood screws because we need them to be long enough to penetrate the wood but we don’t want the screws to go through the

Boards now one of the things you learn when you build these is to not insert the screws all the way you want them to only be partially in because we need to try and level the Bottom now that all the screws are in place and the pipe is reasonably straight we’re going to finish the install so now the individual hoop supports are installed on both sides of the beds I have three on each side one on each end and then one in the middle now I’m going

To show you how to make the Hoops now when it comes to building the Hoops you basically have two options you could either get a 10ft stick of/ in PVC from the plumbing aisle or you can get a 10-ft stick of/ in electrical conduit from the electrical aisle now I

Recommend the electrical conduit because it is UV resistant it will last a longer time in your garden than the white PVC from the plumbing aisle that will break down more quickly however the electrical conduit is more expensive for this build I’m going to use the white PVC from the

Plumbing aisle because I happen to have a lot of these and I just want to get rid of them but I’m going to have full knowledge that these will only last a few seasons whereas the electrical conduit will last more all of these pipes come in lengths of 10 ft so that

Is basically the maximum length of the hoop that you can have a Bend to it now I have found in my garden the 10 ft is a little bit too tall the structures catch too much wind so I like to cut these down to 9 ft that is what I found works

Best for me for my 4ft wide beds but keep in mind if your beds are wider or narrower that may mean that you may need to change the length you may want your Hoops to be shorter for whatever reason now your end Hoops are going to have to

Have one of these te’s placed on them because we’re going to have to provide a center pearlin for support more on that later but but in order to do this since these are/ in sticks of PVC pipe I have to use a/ in to 3/4 in reducer te so the

Big end that is going to be a 3/4 in reducer that is going to slip over the pipe and then your 1/2-inch pipe is going to plug into that so that is going to be basically our Center support that’s very important so the two end Hoops are going to have that t installed

Directly in the center you’re going to draw a center line right in the middle of the pipe and then you are going to pre-drill that t in order to lock it into place dead center and you can see I’ve already done that here I have this one already pre-made from an older hoop

House structure that I’m going to repurpose so now we’re going to begin installing our hoop so we’re going to take one end and insert it into that EMT conduit and make sure that the t- fitting is sticking directly out in that direction and we’re going to just bend it

Whoops and that right there is why electrical conduit is better this PVC pipe can only take two summers here in the Carolina Sun so I’m going to slip a brand new PVC pipe into the pipe holder that we just made and then we’re going to go over here we’re going to throw on

Our 3/4 in to/ in reducer te and then we’re going to place the other piece inside the Center support is not going to get a t fitting and then we do the last end support here again we throw the T on now remember we marked the exact

Center line of our Hoops that are going on the end and that is where we want to install this T fitting right here because that is going to hold the brace the cross uh cross brace that goes across the bed so now that we have the T

Fitting exactly where we want it to be we are going to pre-drill through this T fitting and into the PVC pipe and then we are going to hold that in place with 3/4 in screws and now that is secure now the last thing I’m going to

Do is install the central member that is going to be the support brace now the only problem here is that it’s a little bit too long because uh the conduit supports are not exactly at the end I have to cut this down to size it doesn’t

Have to be perfect I’m just going to eyeball it and start making a cut and now I’m going to plug it in and twist so overall everything looks pretty good it’s straight I’m happy with the way came out but I just need to secure this Central member and in order

To do that I’m just going to take this piece of electrical tape and I’m going to weave it in a crisscross pattern in order to hold everything in place let’s just back away and make sure that everything is straight which it is and now we will continue the weaving pattern

And that completes the frame of my hoop house structure now what’s so awesome about this structure is if I were to just install those EMT conduit supports on all of the bottoms of my beds because they are all the exact same width I could remove these hoops and just

Transfer it to different beds as I’m growing in them so once all these veggies were harvested and that bed becomes empty let’s say I was growing in a different bed I could just relocate the frame and this could easily be built in under an hour and I am not a

Mechanically inclined person now the last thing I need to do is cover my bed however we have a massive storm with high winds coming tomorrow so I’m not going to cover it just yet so I’m going to let this storm pass and then I will

Show you how to cover the bed well the severe weather has pass but we have five nights of freezing temperatures on Deck so we’re going to put that hoop structure that I just built to good use and in order to do that we’re going to use some agricultural fabric that you

See right here which will protect against hard frosts and freezing es uh but it will also let heat Escape during the day when things get really warm and nice like it is right now and then we’re going to secure it with these half in PVC snap clamps we’re going to basically

Snap clamp this agricultural fabric to the hoop structure and I’m going to show you how to do that so we’re going to toss this agricultural fabric over the hoop structure and then Center it as best as we can and then once we get it centered we’re going to begin snapping

On the snap clamps and there you have have the completed hoop structure it looks fantastic the piece of agricultural fabric is held down securely by all of the individual PVC snap clamps you can see that I put the PVC snap clamps on top to hold things down but I generally like putting them

On the inside because they are less prone to wind I find now you’ll also notice that I have this as an open design that’s because I’m growing brassas in here broccoli cab cabbage mustard greens Etc and the issue with brasas is while they don’t like a hard Frost they also don’t like warm

Temperatures it will cause them to bolt so I want a completely open design here to let out the heat completely during the day as well as keep the hard frosts off of them you can see my broccoli is already starting to get to the point where the heads want to separate just

Because it’s 60° today so we want to keep these protected from the warm as well as the cold so it’s very important that you tailor your cover to what you’re growing in there you want your broccoli covered differently than you’d want say Tomatoes or peppers in the

Spring or the summer but that is the beauty of a design like this you can tailor it to the time of year and to whatever you’re growing so if you’re in a milder Zone 8 climate like mine and you just want to keep the hard Frost and

Freezes off of your broccoli you can use agricultural Fabric in an open design if you live in a colder climate and you’re growing cooler seasoned vegetables like this you can have a completely closed design where you can seal the ends then in the spring you can take this off and

You can outfit it with insect netting to keep the pests off you can throw shade cloth over it in the summer in order to keep your plants cooler then you can take the shade cloth back off and then leave the insect netting back on until the fall when the pests are still out

Then you can switch out the insect netting and put on the agricultural fabric again when late fall comes and you start getting the frost and freezes to enhance your growing season and stretch it out and because this is a removable design when I eventually Harvest everything in this bed let’s say

I plan out the bed in front of it or the bed behind it next well I can just simply pick up the hoops and just set it over the new bed because they’re all the same size and that right there is how you can build a completely removable

Hoop house for a raised bed garden and like I said this is a design that I will be able to use 365 days of the year to not only protect against cold but also insects and heat as well well so over the rest of the winter I will be using

This design and installing those EMT conduit holders on all of my raised beds so I can repurpose this design everywhere so everybody I sure hope you found this video helpful if you did please make sure to hit that like button subscribe to the channel and please ring that notification Bell so you’re

Notified when I release more videos like these if you’re curious about any of the products that I used in this video they will all be linked down in the video description and I’ll also place a link to my Amazon storefront where you you can see everything I use in real life

And while you’re there check out my spread shop for custom merch if you want to support the channel thank you all so much for watching and I hope to see all of you again on the next video oh boy Dale we have such a good breakfast for you this morning we have

Homeade beef and broccoli and carrots and rice with a hardboiled egg oh this is going to be so good are you excited oh he’s going to go crazy wait very good Dale yes good boy buddy what’s your favorite part I see you ate the hard-boiled eggs first ooh Dale

Loves eggs so much look at the way he’s going for them that’s right buddy the yolk is the best part that’s where all the vitamins are this is why we have a healthy boy in his Santa Claus pajamas it was cold last night good thing we have something warm for Dale

  2. Thanks as always for the ideas! I was thinking of driving 2 ft rebar into the ground the standing the pvc pipe over it to hold up but I like the idea of the emt pipe now 🤣🤣🤷‍♂️

  3. Great idea! I was wondering if you do some sort of crop rotation with your raise beds…and if so how you go about making those decisions.

  4. Thanks so much for sharing! I would love to build these. My raised beds are the metal Vego beds though so I can’t screw the electrical conduit to the outside of the beds. What would I do instead?

  5. Try a 1/2" pvc cross at the center and 1/2 tees on end… glue it all. Allow to set up overnight before trying to bend to fit your emt conduit sleeves. This is how I do my beds. Try it… you'll like it! 👍

  6. Good video as always! I wanted to tell you that I have spray painted my pvc to help with UV exposure breakdown. Happy Holidays from my homestead in northwest Florida.

  7. I would use 1/2" tees and glue them with pvc solvent glue. it will weld the joints together and make it stronger. your method of screwing them will weaken the pipe and crack it over time. But I like the general idea,

  8. Can’t you just use slightly larger conduit clamps on the side so the pvc slides in and out the same way

  9. Don't get me wrong, it's a good video. Two comprehension questions:
    1. Why do you (and some other gardeners with gardening channels) do not have a problem with drilling / cutting / scraping plastic (and in this case also metal) IN the garden? What is the mindset of "contaminating" the soil with micro plastics (and metal splinters)?
    2. You have a lot of those plastic pipes and you want to get rid of them. Understood. If you're searching for the perfect hoop house, wouldn't it be better to finally use only the metal pipes as hoops? You would never have to change them ever again. Yes, it is expensive, but you exchange money for peace of mind and less work / lifetime. You get money by investing your (life)time for work. Metal instead of plastic would reverse this, and it is worth it, in my opinion.

  10. Thanks to you and previous videos on hoop covers, we were able to extend our harvest for our bush beans for the last 2 seasons. Looking forward. That's really cute santa PJ's for Dale. Yummy breakfast for Dale too. Strange how we were always told by the vets not to give our pets people food. It's much healthier than kibbles and bits I think. Lucky and happy…. Dale.

  11. I made my hoops out of EMT (metal conduit). I bent an arch with the same radius as the bed. I made a jig out of a 3 foot 2 x 12 by cutting the arch out of it and bending the EMT. It worked beautifully and the hoops look factory made. They fit into wooded holes I made on the sides of the beds. I made it so the holes drain. I like your fabric clips. I'm going to make some.
    Merry Christmas to y'all.
    Merry Christmas, Dale.

  12. Off subject– when you use fish emulsion- does Dale show any interest and does this causes any problems for Dale? Thank you

  13. Another great video. I want to make some hoop houses like this one, although at the time I only have 2 – 4X8 beds, so not sure I need them to be removed and will not need the extra pipe holder. I do like that they can be covered most of the time for numerous reasons !!!
DD n Tx. Merry Christmas to you and yours ! 🎄🍋😎🍋🎄

  14. It’s a bit more work, but if you use a3-way angle connector it puts less bend on the pipes and it make last longer given the lower level of bend stress. For the middle, spend the money and get a 4 way cross.

  15. We have a similar design but use rebar stakes next to the bed and just slip the pipe over the top of the rebar. Love how you put the center pipe on, definitely adding that ours this next season!

  16. I followed your lead from a previous video and covered my plant with plastic and heated the house with incandescent Christmas lights. When do I use plastic vs. frost blanket? My trying to protect my banana plant.
