Gary Pilarchik: What Exactly is Single Stem Tomato Pruning: A Video Example – TRG 2014

Single stem tomato pruning is really done to manage growth. You don’t allow any suckers to mature from branch joints and basically have one vine or production stem. It’s a couple of branches of leaves, a flower cluster and repeat. You will get less tomatoes but you will get bigger tomatoes. It is easier to manage the plant generally. Not all tomatoes are good candidates for single stem pruning.
