Why I’m missing @the_rhs Chelsea Flower Show no.1… each Thursday in May we’re going to be throwing back the years to a Chelsea garden and we thought we’d start here with 2013. The Wasteland was the product of a simple Google search for an image of some concrete and somehow it ended up with a show garden of uncompromising materials (some might say ‘ugly’) softened by a palette of plants befitting a communal space with room for trees and shrubs as well as perennials. It was a hard build (concrete is not an exact science when it’s meant to look old and weathered) and the weather was cold and wet. I think the sun shone for a few hours at some point but mainly we wore coats and waterproofs and ate pizza and drank a lot of coffee.
