Exciting Spring Garden Projects & Ideas For My English Garden 🌳🌳

We’ve finally made it to Spring and my English garden is starting to burst into life. My absolute favourite time of the year.

Yesterday I had a productive gardening day, mulching my fountain garden and sorting out a better place to store my compost for next Spring.

I’ve found some gorgeous garden bargains on Facebook Marketplace which I’m sharing with you, plus asking for your opinion on where to place one of them.

I’ve been given some very lovely Smart Garden Faux Rattan hanging baskets from Alton Garden Centre and the link to these on their website is here:

https://alton-gardencentre.co.uk/pots-planters-and-hanging-baskets/

They are all in slate grey, 14”, and guaranteed not to rot which is perfect. They are the Hanging Cone, Hanging Basket and the Wall Torch and I’ll be planting these to hang in Woodland Courtyard and will show that on Instagram.

Finally, I have 3 very pretty gifts to show you to hang in various spots, probably in Woodland Courtyard.

If you’d like to join my Facebook page, also called The Enthusiastic Gardener, you can find it by clicking this link:

For we for For That for hello everyone it’s Janette here at the enthusiastic Gardener that was my Sunday morning early morning walk about it was about 6:30 a.m. this morning and it was just so beautiful on arm I thought I’ve got to capture this however since then now it’s 3 hours later at 9:30 I’ve been

Inside watch Lind ARA’s signature style Saturday morning fix of her had a few cups of coffee taking lty for a dog walk and now it’s cold and it’s quite windy it’s quite sheltered in my garden in the main but uh oh it’s windy on our dog walk anyway yes today I had a

Very productive day in the garden because I decided to finally mulch this bed over here I took some footage of before so that you could see what it’s like before and after mulch oh mulch makes such a difference so you may remember I had behind the cabin uh two huge big bags a

Year ago I’d put all my leaves in there and it created the most gorgeous compost however I didn’t realize how was I going to get it out because oh my goodness when you put a bag of leaves yes you can lift those but when it turns into compost it’s like trying to lift

All the anyway let me show you what happened yesterday the um compost bags were all behind here which at the time great big uh bags full of leaves and I’d push them right the way to the top full of leaves a year ago but I hadn’t considered the fact that by the time

They break down gosh they are so heavy and I didn’t know how I was going to get it out and through here without damaging all my plants so Maggie had a wonderful idea which oh sometimes you just don’t think of these things yourself why don’t you

Get a wheelbarrow which is what I did I got my wheelbarrow and I wheeled it up The Path and I had to do little Spade Falls bit by bit which took a bit of doing that was yesterday but I think you’ll you’ll see that it’s looking a lot

Better that’s the mulch from two big bags of compost so I do want to do it again and I was thinking how can I well where can I put them you know my garden small can’t put them down here because that will just ruin the access to my

Shed and if we look down the shed you can see around here is a manery of untidiness and these Planters which go right around to the back all different things I have obelisks and lots of really nice things I’m going to be utilizing those so anyway I can’t

Put the compost bags down there so I had a good idea and we’re going to put the compost bags down here however that created another job so you can see they’re they’re down there now they safely tucked there we don’t actually use that gate because we go

Through the garages however you can you can now pass down the side just about and you’ll be able to open the gate because the gate opens inwards so there’s my bags of leaves and it’s easier for me to access now but we had a huge big barbecue here which we

Never use because it’s far too big for us to with our two burgers and two sausages so that was there and so I pulled everything out need to get rid of that umbrella cuz it’s a bit stiff and uh Rusty so I pulled all the barbecue out

Then then of course I had to start cleaning the barbecue so I thought I’ll put it on Facebook Marketplace and sell it at least someone could use it so I had to clean it all first which as you could imagine was not the most Pleasant of job this whole area was full of

Debris and soot and dust and everything so that was quite the task but I put it on Facebook Marketplace within an hour it had sold within 2 hours this wonderful gentleman had come and picked it up so we will get I think a new barbecue but a small one and

Possibly a gas one as well because the charcoal one you know you need all the charcoal you need the fire lighters and what we tended to do really was buy a disposable one put it on the top rack and I mean that was a bit ridiculous

Really so I’m glad the barbecue is gone but it was a lot of work clearing all that side but it’s lovely and tidy now so that’s good so that’s what took up most of my day doing the mulching there and then the organizing of down the side side and the selling of the

Barbecue so today I think I’ll just talk you through some of the ideas that I have I’ve got lots of nice things to show you couple more Facebook Marketplace finds Well I have had great success on and good fortune on Facebook Marketplace I have two wonderful new things to show

You this is the first one I saw this and I thought this has to be mine this is like a metal metal sculpture and it it’s just lovely and it was £7 and literally it’s 10 minute car ride away from me so I thought this is has to be mine I love it

So there’s a number of places where it could go in my garden particularly nice in Golden hour at the end of the day the last hour of sunshine because the light depending on where you put it the light kind of catches it looks very beautiful

So there are a number of places but I want your opinion please tell me where you would put it or if I show you a couple of examples which do you think’s nice but I think the best thing I could do is put it out the front for those of you who

Know what I’m talking about with my uh Easter Island purple head that’s now out the front painted gray last year I decided to revamp the front garden and I moved some fsas which are now in Woodland Courtyard doing exceptionally well which I’ll show you those in a

Little while um anyway I I hate it every time I walk up see purple head I just it’s got to go I need something else there so this could go there I’ll show you now me just putting it in front of of purple head so that you can see

What the effect might be here is the front garden it’s very plain and simple I don’t really have to do very much to it it goes around there but the purple head but this is the offensive in my opinion purple head lty wants to come out let’s let lty

Out and we’ll put the uh the leaf there and you can see what you think see this is what it would look like here I think it looks nice I mean it can go back a little bit once I move the purple head I think that looks better to you um

Please let me know would you put this instead do you hate purple head as much as I do Richard likes it and I just want it gone to be honest well this is one option that I could put it here that would look very nice I think or maybe here

Perhaps or what about here what do you think of it there I mean there’s a number of you could go anywhere really so many options so anyway with my new Leaf sculpture please let me know what you think where would you put it in the garden um yes so

That’s one of my finds so put it there for the moment until you let me know what would you do and I’ll show you my second most amazing Facebook Marketplace find I am delighted we have to go into the garage to show you my new Facebook

Marketplace find now this is to go with the new chairs which at some point Richard will be making this is gorgeous and it is from a lady who lives in Brentwood and she said she had this made for her it’s RW iron so blacksmith made it to her special design

So there are no others in the world apparently and uh that’s going to be my table around my chairs these are going to be my chairs when Richard is table and feels well enough to make my chairs we have four that he’s going to make and they’re going to look exactly like the

Blue chair which is outside in the Fountain Garden so I am delighted that’s going to go in the center it’s like an oval shape now that was £30 but of course I have bought a mirror glass top not a mirror a glass top I won’t get it out but it’s a

Circle to fit and we’ve got those little um what are they like robbery um stick on things so it doesn’t go straight onto you know what I mean we’ve got a pack of those but I’m so pleased with this I think it would look perfect with the RW

Iron kind of effect we had h two lamps bedside lamps and they’ve both broken so we were going to throw them away but I suddenly thought what about I could perhaps paint them tell me what you think of this is this like a too crazy if I could paint them couldn’t I and

Just kind of dot them dot them around whoops well you get the idea I could paint them so yeah I think maybe um oh Richard what what do you think good morning good morning it’s quite windy today quite windy so what do you think of the ball Richard down there does that look

Ridiculous I was going to paint it there’s two obviously oh there’re the shades from the yeah what do you think quite like that do you you doesn’t look ridiculous I wouldn’t paint it you wouldn’t no oh okay so I think you it’s more striking like that yeah looks like a scene from

The Prisoner what was that Patrick M why was it and U there was his balls floating man it’s I mean the series was back in back in the 60 1960s oh gosh yeah oh okay no so you like it I thought you’d think that was ridiculous no well that’s it then I

Think not painting them the sun yeah as it is there is going to enhance them okay I think once you start painting them and then the paint starts flaking yeah and then well thank you for your star tips yeah only come walk out we could even put them over here with my other

Balls we could have like the ball Garden I will be moving these out these are cares um which are planted in the Autumn and we have some more here so I will be popping those out into the rest of the garden at some point it’s too cold yet

Our average last frost days probably I would guess end of April so I mean it’s not even the end of March yet so if I take those out now there’s no I can’t put annuals in but I have a wonderful idea a wonderful idea for something that can go in this box

Which I will tell you about at another stage this still needs to go on the wall it’s been there for months now and I’m wondering if it should go either here or it could go there so that’s something I’m thinking of now with Woodland Courtyard what I’d like to do

Is really really go for it with Woodland Courtyard let me shut the door so you can see properly and really make it to like a not a jungle effect but that kind of thing hang on make it into a very very um Lush and Evergreen with plants everywhere so I have

These I have been given these from my beautiful garden center called Alton look at these aren’t they gorgeous they gave them to me to try out they’re by a company called smart garden they’re faux ratan they are guaranteed to never rot they won’t rot they hold up to 7 L of

Compost and I think they’re gorgeous this one is hanging it’s 14 in is diameter and then I have this one CU it comes in the hanging basket they’re $9.99 which I think is very good and they’re never going to rot they’re tough and they’re durable so I have a hanging

Basket this one is the hanging cone and then this one is called the what’s this one called It’s called The Wall torch I think they’re gorgeous so they’re going to be in Woodland Courtyard so what I’d like to do I’d like to put one there and I’ll put one there and I’ll

Have one there so that will kind of give that even more uh folage and everything I just think they’re lovely they’re from a company called Alton Alton Garden Center which is one of the biggest family garden centers in my area uh in Wickford in Essex and it started a

Little onean bag and and he bought a a plot on the a127 which is the road that leads from South End to London and he had space enough for 10 cars and he had uh a greenhouse and that’s how he started and now it’s huge it’s huge so they very

Kindly gave me these to just try out which is wonderful now what I’m going to plant them with I’m not going to do that for the cameras I’m going to do that for my Instagram cuz I said as a thank you for giving me them I’ll do some

Instagrams for them so that’s amazing and a lot of fun and and honored to be asked but what I’m going to do because it’s a very shady corner I’m not going to put annuals so it’s going to be Evergreen so I have all these hookas and someone kindly asked how my hookas do

Because a year ago I did a video and divided them and it’s called a lot of you so obviously a lot of you were interested in in doing that as well I mean look how wonderfully they’ve done they were just like it was probably like this much that I planted and they’re

Amazing these are well they’re they’re just as good but they need repotting they need potting on so I think I’m going to fill my new containers the hanging ones with gorgeous hookas I do have a lot of ferns from Mark border these desperately need to be potted up but you remember

All the um when we went around to look at the shed earlier today you saw all the baskets and things that I have there so I think they’re going to kind of fill areas here with the baskets and also of course you can have iies I do like I is

And also I think I’m going to this is a lamium and you may remember for those of you who’ve watched the soil here I’ve tried various things here the soil here is as only as deep as those bricks so maybe four 5 in and then it hits

Concrete so I’m going to uh dig up the lamium it’s looking a little tough but is still doing well that one in particular looks pretty so I can put lamium in my hanging baskets I can put um hookas I can put Ivy and it’s just going to be a lush green that’s the

Effect that I’d like in this area just make it really full and gorgeous and talking of Ivy I’ve finally decided I’m always telling you that I need to go around the other side of this fence which is just a public area sorry about the wind and pull the ivy back but

I’ve decided no I’m going to go with the ivy actually how gorgeous that Theo Red Robin is yes I’m going to go with the IV I’m going to let the ivy do because as you can see the fences I’ve painted them a number of times I give up painting the fences it’s such

A horrible job but I think I will I’m going to go with the Ivy and I think it’ll be a nice backdrop of green so that’s the story with the Ivy I’ve had a couple of gifts as well people know me well now this was from my sister which is the little hanging bumblebee adorable don’t you think that will go somewhere around here I’ll hang that up and then also my friends from my school which I recently left they bought

Me this which is a beautiful they bought me this as well so that’s very pretty that will go that will go somewhere not quite sure where yet anyway those are my thoughts and ideas and plans and projects and things that I think of when I’m um just passing the time indoors watching other

People’s gardening programs Etc so it’s very exciting and uh yes I’m not actually doing any Garden in today but I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing my plans don’t forget let me know what you think about my metal Leaf sculpture where you think that should go thanks so much for watching I’m Janette I’m the

Enthusiastic Gardener I hope you have a wonderful week in your garden take care everyone bye

  1. Hi! Your garden is looking beautiful! I love the leaf!! Wherever you choose to place it will be perfect! If the purple head decided to walk away I wouldn't be sad but don't tell Richard! We want him happy also! 😂🥰

  2. Yes, I hate the purple head, the leaf is beautiful, I think any place you put it would be so much better than the ugly purple head😂

  3. Hello Janette and Richard🫶, I’m watching this on my break and it’s just what I needed to unwind, thank you. Looking forward to all of your projects and plans for spring and beyond. Everything in the garden looks so neat and tidy, you are really one step ahead 🎉. A wheelbarrow is a gardeners best friend😉. I liked where you put the leaves now, easier access. I agree with Richard, leave them unpainted and dot them around, how cute would that be🥰? It’s still very cold here on Long Island NY, especially at night. Love fb marketplace, always something on there, great find, I love the unique table, it’s going to look 👏.love your new wall planters too,Janette you are so inspiring 🤩🪴🌿. My lenten roses are already up and looking fabulous 🥳. Janette, fyi, please be careful as ivy as you know can overtake everything and spread into the garden and it’s so hard to get rid of.

  4. Hi, Janette! Your garden looks great! It is so neat and tidy. I lo e your leaf sculpture. I wouldn't put it in the front. I like the places in the garden you showed us. Enjoy your week!❤

  5. Hi Janette, your garden looks lovely. I liked the metal leaf at the front, what a bargain!! And I must follow your lead and start collecting the leaves as we have trees on 2 sides of the garden. Do you add to them throughout the year? Have a lovely week xx

  6. Goodbye purple head !!! Sorry Richard, that thing freaks me out 🙄 Take it to the golf course Richard 😅😂😉
    Good finds 😁

  7. Hi Janette. I have always liked Mr Purple Head but thought how good that leaf, which is lovely, looked in your front garden. I do think however it also looked good in the first border round your lawn. What lovely gifts you’ve received, those baskets will look lovely on the garage wall – I could visualise the effect you want to achieve. I look forward to seeing all your ideas being fulfilled in the future.

  8. Hi Janette, I love, love, love, all your new things, particularly the leaf. However, no, no, no to getting rid of the purple head 😢 (you know I like having a joke about it)
How about planting some ornamental grass in amongst the stones round the purple head to soften the look.?
Letting the ivy grow up the fence sounds a good plan. 😊😊😊

  9. PS. I love the light shade and agree with Richard to keep them white. You could get some solar fairy lights to put inside them….just a thought. X

  10. Enjoyed your tour around the garden and the birds of course….please replace purple head with leaf..! !.
So much rain here in limerick Ireland can't really do much gardening yet…..and very bad weather for this week also….soooo depressing..

  11. Your yard is beautiful, leaf out front is my vote, can’t wait to see all once planted up, I need to find you on Instagram

  12. I find the purple head is very interesting and woukd leave it🤔😊. It’s your garden Janette you choose!! The leaf is attractive in all spots.
Great find in the table . Exciting seeing that come together!! You are so creative painted robes would add interest! Do it try it you are only out of time😁.

  13. Everything is looking so good. That grass is beautiful! We are still having near freezing temps. It should warm up soon, hopefully! Some plants have come back and blooming already and I have sweet peas that are doing well in the greenhouse. It’s been so cold that I wasn’t able to work in my woodland fairy garden 🧚. I do hope y’all are well.

  14. Greetings from across the pond. The leaf is a great find; I much prefer it the Mr. Purple Head 🤪. I like it in the front garden but as someone else commented, I’d put it in the back where you will probably enjoy it more. I do agree with Richard (hi Rich); leave the globes unpainted and find a way to illuminate them at night – that could be quite stunning. What wonderful gifts from Alton’s, your sister and your former coworkers, all items that will look right at home in your garden which is looking lovely.

  15. 😂 yes, purple head needs to go. Maybe find a tiny little space, perhaps a planter inside his workspace to sit to the side of it but I definitely like the leaf in its place. That way he can enjoy it.

  16. I agree with Richard that the orbs should not be painted. The white contrasts with the green foliage and is attractive there. You've got lots of great ideas for the garden and your woodland courtyard. It will be lovely with all the green and the huecheras. Spring comes and we get excited about creating new areas in the garden. Will be watching to see how it all develops.

  17. Stunning garden, Great job, so whimsical and charming I just absolutely love it!!!! I am in Maryland Zone 7a. If you can take some time to tell us what are the plants you have can be helpful.! God Bless

  18. I really need to get out and start more work in the garden. You’re giving me motivation! I’ve done some in my front boarder, bought a few new pots and currently trying to find the best positions and so on. Now, getting out to the back is a whole new story.

  19. Sorry Richard, but I think purple head should go, and the leaf art is a very good replacement, and the rest of the garden looks so bright and cheerful 🌸

  20. Hello Janette! 👋 I like your plans for your garden and for shady corner – it is all looking so lovely! I like your idea to put the leaf in your front garden, especially if it makes you happy 😊. I also like your idea with the glass globes. I agree with Richard – don’t paint them. What about putting some battery operated fairy lights in them? The heucheras are looking lovely too! How are the geranium plants in your attic doing? Take care! ❤

  21. maybe consider spraying the balls silver and see if you can get a couple more of different sizes could look quite effective. love watching you in your garden. Xx

  22. I'm very jealous of all your heucharas Jeanette, I seem to have lost all mine over the winter, probably because of all the rain we have had and our heavy clay soil. I think your leaf looked lovely out the front in place of purple man.

  23. Hi Janette, such a lovely peaceful early morning garden tour. I think your new little leaf would look great in the front garden so my vote will be to say goodbye to grey 'purple' head. Hope Richard won't be too sad if the front garden vote comes out on top. The little table was such a good find and I love all the bees. Shifting the compost was a huge job but well worth the effort. So many lovely plans and we'll look forward to seeing them come to life. Hope you and Richard have a good week. Love Bron xx

  24. Hi Janette, thank you for sharing your garden ideas, I enjoyed watching your video. I think purple head should stay in the front garden. The new leaf in the back somewhere with a contrasting background maybe or place to capture the sun.
I like the white balls , don't need to paint, tell Richard I remember the TV cult series the prisoner where huge white balls chased the Patrick McGowan. (The prisoner) In fact the series was filmed in North Wales at a place called Portmerion , I told you about last year it has a fantastic Italian garden. Steve (EYe in the N)

  25. I like it in the garden, Jeanette. I kinda like “purple head”. I’m with Richard! lol!
Thanks for sharing your garden with us today!😃💐🌻🌺🌺🦩

  26. Beautiful garden. Love your deco items as well. Do you repaint them or do they come already painted?! Just asking. They are so pretty

  27. I hate purple head, sorry Richard. I think the metal leaf should go there, round the front, looks great with the bricks as the back drop.

  28. Happy Spring,
I am so happy to see that the two of you are well!
I agree with Richard, don’t paint the globes, they look good the way they are.
    Love
    Donna,
