Plant Propagation

is this bad?

hello everyone! i am very new to propagating and keeping my planes in water. obviously this one has been in water for a long time. however, in the past month i have noticed some stuff on the roots that looks like algae. is this normal or safe? if not how do i get rid of it? anything helps!

They look great. About ready to plant in some soil.

If your plan is to keep in water… wash them off in the sink use your hands to gently rub the algae off. If you are not liking the amount of roots.. you can trim them. Some people like the plants in water long term.

I’ve heard from different people that some algae is fine short term. It starts to get problematic however if left over time because it will overwhelm the roots. You can pour hydrogen peroxide in (I’ve used roughly a half cup of hp for a similar size propagation) and leave it to soak for a couple hours. It will bubble and look really cool while it deals with the algae. After sitting for a couple hours, rinse the roots off very well and scrub the container before filling with fresh water!
Just did this with my water props this weekend and boy was it satisfying, nobody is showing any signs of being unhappy with the treatment afterwards either.
