If I top dress with pebble rock/play sand will the existing new growth, be able to push up through the top layer to for sunlight ? Sorry new to plant life 😅
Plants *always* find a way. I’ve noticed my pothos mostly grow from the existing branches anyway so I think most will already be above the soil. But regardless you don’t want to pack the soil too tightly where even water can’t go through it, as long as it’s porous I think you’ll be fine.

Be careful with top dressing your soil. This will often interfere with the process in which the soil dries out.

Don’t use any sort of rocks on the soil. This contributes to rot and pets. Plants don’t need rocks in their planters. I wouldn’t bother with sand because over time it just ends up mixing with the soil anyway, it’s pointless unless you’re willing to water only from the bottom of the pot every time. Otherwise every time you water the sand will just sink into the soil.
