Plant Propagation

Coleus cutting – trim or coil roots?

This coleus cutting was "rescued" from a larger cutting that had rooted, was planted, and then snapped when the pot fell off the table (oops). That said, I have never seen root growth like this from a cutting in such a short amount of time! The longest roots are well over 4". Should I trim the roots or just coil them when I go to plant? I've never had to contend with roots this long when propagating and am a bit hesitant to prune them.

Ordinarily I would start a cutting in a 4" pot, but would another size work better? The pictures don't show, but there is a second node also sprouting (much, much smaller) roots.

Thanks for any advice.

Just coil, don’t cut. 4inch pot would do fine but the way it’s growing maybe start a little bigger
