Bauhinia propagation help needed!!

Help! I propagated part of my grandmothers Bauhinia orchid tree from mature stems and its already wilting at the top.

I cut the stems off as low as possible from the orchid tree and added some root hormone before using soil it was currently growing in and i watered it. I removed some of the lower leaves on this split stem but i wasnt very successful in getting a lot of roots. I have never propagated this species. I am already beginning to notice wilt.

Is this normal for this kind of tree? Will it perk up? Should I put it in water instead? Any advice or helpful suggestions appreciated.
