hello everyone welcome to Kim’s Co corner I’m Kim and we’re doing more regular harvest in the garden and I thought I’d bring you along with me [Music] we are at the end of May so today is May what is today today is May 22 and I’m starting to get more and more regular harvest in the garden of some of my cooler season type crops and I want you to see exactly what we’re getting I have a family of four I live in Southwest Ohio and I live in zone 6A but I’m really more like on the Zone 6A 6B line we’re way past our last frost at this point in time almost a month past it and things are starting to come in and I am trying to keep track of everything that I’m harvesting I’m weighing it and everything so we can see just how many pounds of food we Harvest this year last year I was able to grow a year supply of all of my vegetables except for a couple for my family and this year we’re trying to increase that Harvest not just for my family but for my neighbors as well as a few friends and family members that don’t live with me and so today we’re going to start by working on some strawberries here now I have well over 100 strawberry plants this is my greenstock vertical planter here in this greenstock vertical planter I have seven tiers and these are 7in deep tear and this greenstalk has nothing but strawberries on it now I have two green stalks just like this that have nothing but strawberries in it some of these strawberries are at least a year old some are two years old and some I just put in this year and I’ve been harvesting now I think this will be like my seventh or eighth Harvest I harvested two days ago and I was able to harvest 12 oz of strawberries so I have two green stalks just like this and then I have one more greenstalk that is um I think half of the pockets are filled with strawberries and then I have some random strawberries in raised beds throughout my garden space and we’re harvesting that’s what we’re doing now I’ll be honest with you some of the first strawberries that I harvested they were red but they didn’t have a lot of taste to it but every time that I’ve harvested since then the straw berries are prettier they’re a deeper red and they oops now I’m not trying to give my strawberries to any of the critters but the strawberries are a deeper red and they’re sweeter much sweeter so as they’re coming in the size the shapes are getting better I mean now is the time for me to truly get a enough strawberries hopefully to put even more back than I did last year last year I was able to okay oh all right we can’t weigh that one we going to have to eat that one oh my God that was the best strawberry this year yet anyway um last year I was able to put just a few strawberries back and um I was able to make some strawberry lemonade with them over the winter um cuz I found them in the freezer so as the season goes on my family gets tired of eating strawberries can you believe that can you ever be tired of a strawberry and um when they get tired of the strawberries I start freezing them so we don’t lose the supply and over the winter months I took those strawberries and I turned them into a lemonade and I canned it it was a lemonade concentrate I actually have a video on that and if you’re interested you can check that video out but I made that strawberry lemonade out of it oh my goodness it was so good I think I still have one left for strawberries all right I think I’ve picked this one clean now you can see I left some on here there are strawberries still on here but they’re not red yet that deep red they still have a little white on them so we won’t pick those we’ll come back either tomorrow or the next day and we’ll pick those now don’t get me wrong I still pick me a snack throughout the days um when I’m in the garden but I try not to snack too much because I want to weigh everything so when I say that I’m weighing the strawberries I’m weighing what I’m taking in the house not what I’m putting in my stomach these look good now I have a lot of pill bugs in this bed here and the pill bugs they are eating some of these strawberries um the ones that are laying on the ground some of them are completely eaten by peel bugs and some haven’t been touched so I don’t know I don’t know why they choose one over another and of course there weeds in here as well I’m also hoping to get enough strawberries this year to make a strawberry rhubarb pie I’m also growing uh rhubarb in the garden and this is year what two on my rhubarb and I know you’re not supposed to pick rhubarb the first year I think it’s his first couple of years but I really want to pick them this year I really really want to pick them I almost missed that one it was hiding now the strawberries in this bed here are small and they’re not very pretty right now either so I’m hoping they size up this is a second year in this bed third year in that bed in the middle behind my strawberries those are my grapes and my grapes are coming in nicely there’s a little bitty grapes on there now I did get grapes last year last year was the first year that I ever got grapes and they were good but they were small they were very small and so I’m hoping this year I’ll have bigger grapes now if you want super sweet strawberries I hear you should not pick them after a a heavy rain because they’re full of water and it kind of waters Down The Taste but I’ve heard that if you pick them at the end of the day the sugars will be more concentrated and they’ll be sweeter so I don’t know I’m not a strawberry expert but that’s what I hear now I will be picking some other stuff this is not just strawberries I’m also going to harvest some brassas today which will be my first Brassica Harvest so I’m excited about that and I’m getting ready to go out of town for about a week so I definitely want to harvest anything that’s almost ready because I don’t want to lose it right to be gone for a week and come back and miss the peak of that Harvest and now they’re beyond um where I can use them now this tower has struggled this year now I you see there’s some places that are doing wonderful and this right here this is a runner when it gets long enough I am going to tuck it in that pocket just below it or this pocket right here and it will create a whole new strawberry plant so even though I got a couple places that are bare because the plants died I can take these Runners oh and here’s a good example here’s a runner right here this right here is a strawberry Runner this end right right here will give me a strawberry plant and look what I’m going to do here’s a pocket where everything’s dead in this pocket I should have got my gloves um this pocket is dead there’s nothing in it so I’m going to take this Runner and I am going to poke it down in this pocket and it’s going to grow a whole new strawberry for me a strawberry plant will grow right there off of that Runner that’s how easy it is to keep this strawberry Harvest going so as I was saying even though I got a few Pockets that are bare they will fill up very soon because of the runners coming off of these other plants let’s move on let’s get the rest of the strawberries and then we’re going to harvest some more things but I got a few more Harvest of strawberries I need to get these are strawberries that I have growing in um a wine barrel I think is what you call it um and in with these strawberries I have a tree and this is a peach tree Reliance peach tree that has Peaches on it for the first time ever so I’m super excited about that now the one thing I’m worried about is that there are peaches down here and not up there so I’m not sure if they fell on their own cuz there’s quite a few down here there’s a probably 10 and they’re really small but did they fall on their own um um because I have way too many up there or did an animal pull them down and I don’t have the answer to that so I’m trying to watch this tree or this Peach Tree a little closer I’ll do a full video on all of my fruit trees and I don’t have many so it’s it’s not going to be a huge video but I’ll talk about the different types of fruit trees that I have where I got them from you know the growing habits and that kind of stuff very soon very soon but that’s a different video for a different day these are my basket weave green stalks um they are also seven tiers if you’re interested in greenstalk by the way there will be a link in the description below that’ll take you to the greenstalk website I am an affiliate of greenstock I have 13 green stocks I love my green stalks I grow a variety of things in my green stalks like strawberries I have an onion going here this is a red onion too by the way I have flowers amongst all other kinds of vegetables and I like to do um tours monthly tours of my green stock so you can see how they’re doing and how they’re growing so you can see all the different varieties of things that I’m growing in them but if you’re interested the link will be there for you um I try to do those videos at a minimum once a month month but you’ll see my green stalks in other videos that I post throughout the week and I try to post two to three videos or excuse me I try to post every two to three days or so typically um even when I’m traveling so I try to make sure that content keeps coming so you can see everything that I’m doing in the garden now I have been gardening now for over 15 years um many different stages of garden though but every year I don’t know why the garden just keeps getting bigger and bigger I don’t know what happens I just you know walk out here and there’s another bed or I’ll walk out there out here and there’s another green stock I don’t know who put them out here but the garden just continues to grow but I love to garden garden gardening is more like therapy to me if I’m having a hard day I’m heading to the Garden all right I have one more place where I may have strawberries so let’s grab those up and then we’ll pick something else okay I am over on the west side of my house and this is a gavanized tub that I put strawberries in last year so this is year two on these strawberries now I did move the tub this year to a different location and so where this tub sits now which is on the west side of my house it doesn’t get any Morning Sun it only gets um afternoon sun and a little bit of even Evening Sun once I get to 6:00 or so there’s a tree behind me here that Shades it out so I’m not sure if this particular container is going to continue to do well or not I mean it has a ton of strawberries on here these are the first strawberries on here and there’s also a blueberry tree in here but if this location doesn’t work I’ll just pick this tub up and we’ll put it somewhere else so these are the strawberries for today’s Harvest so every two days I’m getting a bigger Harvest let’s move over and pick I believe we’re going to pick broccoli next I know I said we’re going ready to pick broccoli but look at this y’all look at my petunia it’s a very different type flower than I’ve ever grown before so I started all my patunas from seeds and so I have a couple hanging baskets here but this one’s already started blooming that’s pretty very very different bloom all right so I am over and this is my first head of broccoli I am super super excited now my neighbor has already been picking broccoli over in his garden in his green stock so I have two green stalks that I set up over at the neighbors and so I also plant this Garden here my main garden and I plant the neighbor’s garden and over there I have broccoli growing in one of my two green stalks and he’s been picking broccoli now for about a week according to him and I saw him over there earlier today and he said the broccoli was delicious and so he only picks a little bit at a time so he just picks enough for him to have fresh eating he likes to eat at Raw I like my broccoli um steamed I don’t like raw broccoli but I do like it steamed so look at this look at that y’all my first head of broccoli out of my garden not my neighbors but there’s the first head and I’m going to pick one more yeah these two heads seem to have gotten an earlier start compared to the rest of the broccoli there’s the other one I do have more broccoli that’s just starting to size up there’s another little head of broccoli right there but I have broccoli in several places throughout my garden there’s another one probably a week after on that one and there’s a potato plant there is not supposed to be a potato plant in there we’ll just let that grow and there’s some broccoli here in my metal rais bed that’s just now starting to put a head on so broccoli is On Target now I’m going to pick another Brassica that I’ve never had before and I’m super excited about this one so last fall I tried to grow karabi and I obviously didn’t know what I was doing cuz I don’t think I did that right and the bugs got to it it was the end of the season and and it just wasn’t working so I left them in they didn’t do anything so I planted more karabi seeds and I think I’m getting ready to harvest my first head if I can figure out how to Har Harvest it I don’t know how to do this kabi uh-oh hopefully I did this right I lost a couple L uh leaves but look y’all I grew karabi look karabi I did that now I don’t know how big I’m supposed to let them get but I’m taking one and we will play around with it just to see how it does and how it tastes everybody said it’s really good and I’ve never had it before so I’m super excited and I have two different types of karabi in here I have a purple karabi and the traditional karabi and that’s the first one I’ve ever picked and I’m so happy so happy now I’m going to pick a couple of different things in this space here today let me get my strawberries out the way because guess what y’all it’s time to pick turn turnup greens now these are purple top turnup greens and I don’t like turnips but I do love a good turnup green and I am going to pick the leaves right off of the purple top turnips and these leaves are edible you just put them in a pot of water you boil them a little salt a little of um some type of fat whether it’s bacon grease or you could put bacon in it even or if you don’t eat pork you could put smoked turkey in it and you just boil it and turnup greens are delicious now they will Wilt down to nothing so you have to pick a lot and the reason why I need to pick these today more than anything is not because I want the turnips underneath because I don’t but they are blocking the things that I want to grow on the trellis just behind me here on this trellis I want to grow some uh cucumbers and the turnup greens are so tall that they’re shading out the Sun and I need to get the Cucumbers growing and on the trellis so they can take off and explode with growth but they’re not going to do that as long as they’re being hidden behind these turnips or the turnup greens I should say and I don’t don’t grow enough turnup greens I I should grow more um I like to also mix my turnup greens with mustard greens you can mix the two together and they are delicious one time my daughter so my adult daughter who will be what 28 this year so I’m talking years ago probably 20 years ago at this point we were down in North Carolina visiting my grandmother and she she wasn’t a big vegetable person I mean would she eat vegetables yes um but it wasn’t her favorite but she was down and my grandmother made some turnup greens the oldfashioned way right she put some uh Bacon fat in it some salt and that’s it Bacon fat and some salt and she cooked those turnup greens but they were fresh from the garden just like I’m doing now and my daughter ate and ate and eight and eight and eight almost three meals a day she was eating turnup greens because she loved them that much she ate so many that she made herself sick but she still likes turnup greens today there’s just something different when you pick it from the garden versus um buying it from the store you pick it at that peak of freshness now I do have some family members and Friends actually more friends than family members but my friends are my family members so that’s family as far as I’m concerned that really wanted some turnup the actual turnips so that’s why this year I went ahead and grew more turnup greens because I can enjoy the greens and they can enjoy the turnips now it takes a lot longer for that root to grow that turnup to grow so I mean it’s not time to harvest the turnips by no means but we can enjoy the greens while that turnup is sizing up because once I pick the turnup there are no more greens for me and you can pick your turnup greens at any length you don’t have to wait till they get massive they’re going to turn down uh they’re going to cook down and Wilt down if you want to call it that and they’re going to be super tender if you buy turnup greens in the store usually they’re really big leaves and that’s fine too but you can pick them younger and smaller which is what I need to do so that I can get the sunlight back here all right that should hold me for a week so when I come back I’ll probably have to harvest these again but at least it’s letting that sunlight come in and get to the back part of this bed where I got cucumbers I also have um Peppers back there that needs that sunlight and I have a whole another bed of turnup greens over at the neighbors that I’m not going to get to before I leave so I’ll have to pick those when I come back so that guarantees me a harvest so when I come back there will be another Harvest now I’m going to turn just behind me here and I’m going to pick a few more radish and when I first set my beds up I only put them 2 feet apart um which is plenty of walking space but that’s not enough room to get a seat in between it and I like to sit down when I’m working so as I expanded my garden I started making my rose at least what is that 30 in 30 in apart or more make sure it’s big enough for my wheelbarrow um to get through which was much smarter than what I was doing now I’ve already been picking my radishes now so this is my what second or third Harvest of radish and you can eat radish leaves someone asked the question can you eat radish leaves and the answer is yes you can eat the radish leaves let me see what else have have you had questions about you’ve asked me about oh the little stool that I’m on this little rly stool that I’m on um I honestly have no idea where you can get it from it’s from the step two company and I don’t believe that it was ever a garden stool I believe it was a kids toddler’s toy and it has wheels on it and I just roll through the Garden on it but I do have a garden stool that you can find on my uh in the description below to my garden stool and I think it’s from dear fam if I remember correctly and it’s got pockets on the side where you can put your little Tools in it’s got a kner pad where you can turn it around and get on your knees or you can sit down and I do like that little stool the only thing that I don’t like about that stool is that I’m short and since I’m so short sometimes the seat is a little high for me and so that’s why when I can get the little rolly stool in I’ll use this little rolly seat but I do like the one from dear fam as well I do like it all right couple radishes to go in the salad and I think we’re going to call it good for today so what do you think how did we do today we picked brocc look at this y’all we got broccoli we got radishes turnup greens even some uh karabi so we got a little bit of everything and so y’all the Harvest is coming in is coming in and I think we’re going to have an amazing season this year harvesting all of these wonderful vegetables for my family and friends if you enjoyed this video just so you know there’s more coming but I need you to give me a thumbs up and subscribe to the channel and turn on notifications because then you’ll know when I’m in the garden or when I’m messing around at Kim’s Cozy Corner so until next time and I hope there will be a next time that you hang out with me Kim at Kim’s Cozy Corner bye see you soon

  1. so jealous – we are finally able to plant in the ground this weekend- enjoy your beautiful harvest

  2. I LOVE my Deerfamy stool! My husband and I fight over it to the point that I think I’ll get another one! It’s the only way I can work in my garden! I appreciate you bringing it to my attention! It’s fabulous! Great harvest Kim! You’re my hero!! ❤❤❤

  3. I can't wait to get like you. This is my first year and I want my veggies and fruits NOW! 😖😖😩😩😅😅

  4. I got some petunia seeds–they are the tiniest seeds–I can hardly see them. I feel like I am going to have to plant them with a magnifying glass!

  5. That petunia is gorgeous! And what a great harvest!
Ah yes, the mystery of "new plant? new flower bed? don't know where those came from!" lol.

  6. Add Collard greens too. Yum. Strawberries look wonderful. And you can eat the radish seed pods too. I can’t get radishes to bulb up here- I’ve tried growing them for five years with no bulb success. But after they flower, the seed pods are my reward.

  7. As you have your garden close to the front of your home and sidewalk do you have issues with people helping themselves to your garden?

  8. Hi Kim, I see you’ve planted your strawberries in the leaf planter. I’ve been reading some comments on the Greenstalk Garden page saying the original is better if you’re overwintering. Someone also said the roots filled the leaf so much that it was hard to keep them hydrated. Can you give me some advice. I’m trying my hand at growing some and need to know which planter to use. Thank you!

  9. love your garden. What type of soil do you use.My garden is not doing well at all.I use a whole lot of good soil and still not sure what else to do.
