so what does it take to grow a giant [Music] sunflower what’s up everybody my name is Joshua and we’re a bold follower here to share with you some gardening tips sunflowers are one of my favorite things to grow because they look phenomenal they’re easy to grow and they’ve got a lot of yield at Harvest with all the seeds and you can eat the whole thing I don’t have a recommendation of which variety is best because it really just depends on a lot of different factors but for the giant sunflowers we through this season we did six different varieties which was Russian Mammoth Titan sunzilla Mongolian giant American Giant and K what you need to do is plant a couple in the ground once the soil is 50° and once they’re a few inches tall remove all but the biggest ones make sure they have plenty of space and good soil the more space and the better the soil the bigger the flow and though they can survive in pretty much anything I cannot stress how important and crucial it is to have ample space and great soil with good amendments in it like compost and all that once they’re planted you only have to water when the top level is dry so it depends on your environment but I do it maybe every other day and that’s it that’s all you really have to do I told you sun flowers are easy but if you want some other tips to help I’ve got seven of those so let’s check them out tip number one plant them directly in the ground you can seeds start um but you’re better off planting directly into the ground because of the incredibly fast deep moving tap rout even though these are so small on top the tap rot goes way longer than the pot already that’s nuts tip number two you might think it’s don’t underwater but it’s actually don’t overwater now as gardeners sometimes we love our plants so much that we give them too much of a good thing and too much of a good thing is often a bad thing see often times when we see an issue with the plant we think oh the solution is always to give it more water when in reality that’s not good in fact the roots are like sponges but they can’t stop soaking in water so it can create fungus infections and a lot of other issues if it has too much water this is kind of an extreme example of getting too much water cuz it’s been raining like crazy but if you were to see this plant you’d probably think it needs more water when in reality no no no no no you need to chill out with the water for a couple days and watch it pop right back up [Music] tip number three Stak as needed the bigger problem you’re going to find is trying to find something that you can stake them with because they grow so tall something tall enough but it doesn’t block the sun you also may may have to stake the top of the flower as well because once it blooms that flower head will take the whole plant down with it bending over tip number four research what types of plants like to eat and what infections are common you got to protect your sunflowers otherwise they’re going to get eaten up like this guy there are some things you can spray on the leaves to protect them from the bugs and then as far as the critters you can either elevate it in an elevated um garden bed or sometimes you can put chicken wire around to protect it tip number five accept casualties this is a learning curve for all of us so today is a sad day for this sunflower this giant sunflower because we’re going to actually have to cut it down see we tried everything we could to make it come back to life it had some leaves that were doing this turning black and um even removing some of the leaves even changing and adjusting the soil and adding extra fertilizer even spraying the plant with certain medicine nothing helped so we ended up having to get rid of it because if you don’t get rid of these plants that are sickly and have diseases they could spread to the whole group so today we’re going to get rid of that tip number six prune your sunflower now some people don’t prune their sunflowers at all and you can do that or if you want to prune some people like to prune the bottom here any of the bottom leaves that are um kind of smaller or starting to wither you can get rid of those some people actually prune a bunch of the bottom leaves um and they claim that it puts more energy into the flower up there you can also prune off any suckers if you only want one flower head that’s supposedly the way to make the one the bigger rather than have a bunch of different flower heads um so the suckers kind of look like this it’s really anything coming off of where the leaf is coming out so if the leaf is coming out there there shouldn’t be three so this middle one is a sucker you can cut that one off if you don’t want an extra flow growing to which you can replant in the ground I did have some dye on me but the ones that did grow were kind of mutants with short stocks and really big flowerheads and final tip number seven have fun and look for some surprises this one has a mutation if you want to come in close and look at it see this is called a Fascination it’s when a flower grows two flowers in the same spot as you can tell it has the regular ring of petals and the regular um head but then you have this which is what looks to be a second sunflower trying to grow in the middle of the first these mutations or Fascinations are super rare but they are super cool what do you think yeah yeah she says yeah so at the end of the season we found out that most of them took just about 90 days or 3 months to grow but then it was another 2 to 3 weeks until those seeds within the flower head fully matured and was able to be harvested hence the change of scenery so our final official measurements of the biggest and largest for this season was the biggest Leaf ended up being 18 in across and the biggest flower head with petals included was about 15 in and the biggest flower head with the seeds fully developed was 16 and2 in across and weighed almost 9 lb the thickest stock was about 2 and A4 in thick or 6 and A4 in Ines around and the biggest stock grew to be 12T 2 of the varieties the Titan and the mammoth were overall the biggest and with very identical measurements so that’s our video we hope that you guys enjoyed it um you can learn a lot about God from gardening there’s a lot of Parables a lot of stories within the Bible that talk about gardening to some effect so once we understand some of these things we can understand a little bit more of Jesus’s words anyway I hope you guys are blessed hope you guys have a great season and good luck growing your own sunflowers let me know how it is is down in the comments peace

Very cool. I love sunflowers 🌻
Great video, thanks
Sweet! God bless you and your family!
Oscar Wilde, the most famous sun flower lover) would have enjoyed your video.
That full growth timelapse was awesome! You should use that clip for something!
Thank you for this video on sunflowers!!!!
Thanks for this. Nice channel.
Loved it. Keep them coming. Jesus is Lord.
Had me all the way until you started spewing your evil religion nonsense. Gardening is sacred all on its own. You don’t have to defile it with your evil religion that hates women and has used genocide to convert and control.
Thanks ❤😊
Your mention of the Bible and Jesus got a sub!
Awesome Video you have mate and God Bless your wonderful day!!!
This is my 4th year planting sunflowers since I live in Fayetteville, NC and we get pretty Hot/Humid summers.
Although when I first planted Russian Mammoth sunflowers in 2020, the results were surprising which I Thank God for it. It grew up to 6ft tall exact same size small head what you showed in a video.
However I had a lack of experience and did not use fertilizer for the first time and planted them in the ground.
Cut the heads way too early and the seeds got moldy. In 2021 and 2022 seasons I had several attempts planting sunflowers however those 2 summers were ridiculously hot so the stalks instantly died. No matter if I used enough water.
Then when summer 2023 hit, the temperatures weren’t as hot as it was compared to 2022 but certain periods were hot which in return we had massive rainfalls and plenty of precipitation after humidity.
I used Cow Manure for Skyscraper Sunflower and the stalk in comparison to 2020 was thicker by 0.5 inches in circumference. I’ve waited longer for the seeds to be mature and for me personally sunflower season 2023 was the best one I’ve had and kept the skyscraper seeds for Sunflower season 2024 to plant them.
Although the skyscraper’s height was shorter than I am since I’m almost 6’3.
I’ve planted 6 sunflowers in front of the house, 6th sunflower is in between 2 air conditioners where there’s plenty of sunlight and 7 more in the backyard.
I probably used 5 skyscraper sunflowers from last year and planted them with cow manure which the brand is called Black Kow manure in the yellow bag.
It rained a lot and planted them on April 19th 2024 so God Permit the temperatures are going to be steady around 75-80 degrees Fahrenheit and no rain for next week.
I also bought Mammoth Grey Stripe which I couldn’t find them in the stores for 3 years and used them to plant with cow manure.
My question I have is this:
If I dig the ground 6-8 inches deep, filled in with cow manure, and planted the seed, will I get better results with massive stalks and larger heads?
What are your thoughts about Mammoth Grey Stripe Sunflowers?
I have started some sf seeds in little starter cells they popped up fast,How deep should I losen the soil? I'm digging a new bed. Thanks Was helpful vid.
Thanks for the knowledge
I grew a giant sunflower once in my life
Sunflowers don’t like fertalizer
❤ love sunflowers and God!
👍
I grew mammoth russian in 2021 along the fenceline and they grew at least seven feet tall. They produced yummy seeds. I tried again the following years and all the flower heads get chopped off, extremely frustrating.
Life is like a garden…
I am growing sunflowers for the first time this year and I cannot wait to see just how big they get! I started them in the ground very early, so their peak size is very intriguing to me 👊🏻🌻👊🏻
Can I grow these in a 7 gallon air-pot ?
You can learn a lot more about God by visiting your local hospital where he is apparently torturing children to death with cancer. Great tips on sunflowers though. Ty
