Hello All!
It was a beauty of a day today in NS and we took the opportunity to get a few things done in and around the gardens today! Lola loves this time of year and you will likely see her basking in the sun in the background of today’s video! She’s a little sun worshiper!
I hope you are able to get out and enjoy the sunshine in your neck of the woods and so hope you enjoy hanging out with me in the garden today!
A huge thanks to my Babe, my partner in crime, the handsomest of camera men! Didn’t he do a great job!? Love ya babe! 😘
Be well. Be kind.

all right we’re going to take a look at the Garden today and see what there is to do as well as a few things that I have done but there’s quite a long list of things we want to get done and we’re making sure we get our list made so that everything can hopefully happen in time so I went ahead and planted some anemones um I like to save my own anemon and ranunculus corns but I think ranunculus is a lot easier to save so these are all new anemone corns and I went ahead and dug up my strawberries um or some of my strawberries and put three rows in this bed in between the rows of strawberries we have some ranunculus um these are tulips that I planted last year that the deer all ate so I’m really hoping these will bloom again this year there nothing planted in the middle here we have some more ranunculus on the borders of these beds and I actually went ahead and planted some snow peas over on this side and I planted some sugar snap peas on this side so far I have um a bunch of Rebeca self- seated coming up in this bed I think I’m going to move that this I want to be annual cup flowers we have some daffodils coming up here you can see all of these um self seated reia over in this bed we’ve got nothing at the back I think that’s where the rebeum might go but then here we have some garlic so I think I’ve got um a couple rows of Music I’ve got three rows of German white there’s two rows of um elephant garlic it’s a lot farther behind you can see it here I think by my hand and then I have one row of this is purple stripe if we keep going you can see my little garbage pile here I just keep collecting um tags and things and throw in them here till I clean them up but where all of these green staks are is asparagus and last year this is the bed um these look like strawberry plants and they are strawberries these look like strawberry plants and they are strawberries but these are actually white strawberries so these are Pineberries so I’m leaving them in this bed to kind of keep them separate from the rest of my strawberries if we go over here this was the main asparagus and strawberry bed so you can see that I’ve got like the first half of it here cleaned out that’s where I got the strawberry plants for that other bed and I haven’t done the front half yet um not entirely sure I may just redistribute these plants back into this bed once I top it up which I could do half and half I could um top up the back half here transplant some of the berries and then deal with with the front half I haven’t quite decided what I want to do there yet um over here these are all perennials for the most part with the odd garlic in here so there’s a lot of delphiniums this whole half of the bed is delphiniums but I also have some yo some daisies some eonia and some Sedum all of these things I want to move in front of the shed we want to put a garden in front of the shed and make that a little cuter and it’ll also free up this space this is where I plan to put the tomatoes and the peppers this year keeping an eye on Lola at the same time so over here we also have some perennial um this is where I have my chives so I’ve got pink purple and white now I hear there’s a red one so if anyone has a lead on where to get a red one let me know um this is a garlic chive this you can just see starting to come up this is um oh what’s it Lage it’s kind of like a perennial type celery um in this corner here is some comfrey and this is a hasc cap Berry so this is going to get moved over beside another one that we have and then this bed is going to be used for something else this year some annual [Applause] crops so I spent the other day feeding this bed um and Each corner we have a different kind of spinach I’m still kind of trying to figure out which variety I like the best so this will be kind of like a little mini variety trial um we’ve also got some Swiss chard and rudas in between each of the corners and then in the very center we have carrots we have tan carrot and Littlefinger um and these will these will be growing All Season I’m hoping though that in the corners once the spinach has finished or bolted I’ll be able to rip those plants out and I want to put a ground cherry in each Corner this is one of our beautiful garlic bags um we’ve got a few kinds here as well I kind of mixed them up this year I didn’t want all of my eggs in one basket so I wanted a few of each variety everywhere we planted it and we do actually have one bed out front of the house as well but here I have this is German white then I have one row of the Elephant Garlic again these ones are a little bit further along I think this bed warmed up before that other bed thought a little quicker all of the garlic looks a little more advanced and then this patch here is music garlic I guess so this bed Size Doesn’t Really Matter match this is a 3X3 all the other beds are like 4T wide but this was one of the original beds when it was located over there and I planted half of it with um daffodils I think this is their third season now and I can tell this year they’re really starting to um multiply and there’s going to be a lot more flowers you can see the flower buds here there’s going to be a lot more flowers this year than there have been in previous years so that’s awesome um they might eventually get moved but right now I kind of like having this Little Flower island in the middle of everything else and then this half was free so I threw some more ronculus in all right now this is a work in progress so this is that rose bush that is from Jarrett’s family’s Homestead so this is going to get moved this year and it is one of the super invasive kinds I found Roots everywhere when I was digging this out I needed more soil in this bed back here to transpant my strawberries so I dug this one out cuz I knew we were going to be renovating it this year um it’s already spread outside of the bed here so I think what we’re going to do like because you know it’s a sentimental value type plant so we still want it but I’m going to get some kind of a big metal ring bury it deep and then bury this rose bush in it to hopefully contain it a little better and I do have a chive plant here as well I want to move all the herbs somewhere and create like an herb garden but I’m not exactly sure where yet um these are just stuck here cuz they were in the garden all winter they were in one of the other beds I was just cleaning those up and I’m going to grow I think I have six of these trellises now and I’m going to grow beans on them so as I find little corners and spaces I’m going check in those in those beds so these two still don’t have a place to go to okay so this bed here has a lot going on these are the um saffron crocuses we planted them a year and a half ago they haven’t bloomed for us yet but they are are multiplying so I’m hoping this fall they’re a fall blooming crocus I’m hoping this fall that we’ll finally get some saffron to harvest that’s just an ornamental onion then you can see where we had um a lot of our kale planted last year has self-seeded and has come back it survived the winter and I did see there’s little um newly germinated seeds coming up in some places too um some of these I might transplant um or I might start new transplants indoors I haven’t really decided yet on this trellis I ended up planting some shelling peas at each end so this first third and the last third in the middle I plan to plant some cucumbers once it’s warm enough we’re still probably five or six weeks away from our last frost so it’s still way too early for cucumbers but peas carrots you know those root vegetables things like that it’s definitely not too early down at the end here we had some crocuses these are mcari there’s some various tulips um and aliums and things a couple years ago I got um some bulbs discounted at the end so a couple years ago I got some bulbs on discount in the fall and I didn’t have a plan or place for them ready so I just stuck them in the end of this bed I still don’t really have a plan for them um when we get that bed done in front of the shed if there’s room for bulbs I’ll definitely stick them in there the other thing we’re going to have to worry about probably not this year but in the next year or two is this is one of the original um garden beds that my dad built in 2017 and it was used wood at the time he is a contractor and he used to use this as part of his staging so it was already showing where when I got it and you can see that this corner is a little rotten um most of it is still okay there’s spots that are starting to go but we’re going to have to start thinking about possibly replacing these in the next little while and I’m going back and forth on if I actually want to replace the wood or if I just want to have mounded beds and I’ve been thinking about digging out the sod in between the beds and putting down like mulch of some kind don’t have to make that decision for another year hopefully but it’s something that is on the horiz or crushed rock I don’t want rocks in the grass in case we want this on again somay okay let’s go over here so this is kind of our fruit alley we’ve got four apple trees some blueberry bushes and a house cap that other house cap is going to come over here and join his brother um and you can also [Music] see the house cap is Buddy out nicely but these poor apple trees um you can see the tips of them the deer are eating them big time so this year these poor things have been here for 3 years we really have to um give them some protection this year and probably fence out just get some steaks put some deer fencing around them just to give them a fighting chance they haven’t grown in like 3 years because they keep getting chomped back okay so this is the Delia bed it is a mess right now I’ve had various cut flowers in it and just kind of let them go to seed last year so while a large portion of this is weeds there are some actual cut flowers in here I think this is Dara or it might be I think Nigella comes back or Leia bachelor’s buttons so some of these things are going to get dug out and put over where the um Rebecca is currently growing and we’ll have a little annual garden over there for cot flowers there’s also where you see these cages um you can see it over here a friend at work gave me some peonies so you can see the red little peony Bud right there I think next to a cup flour that will take I hope maybe and there’s four of them in this Garden so we’ll avoid those areas so other than that it needs a really good weeding it needs reeded and I will definitely give it a topping up of compost at some point so that is our little Grand Garden Tour thank you to my handsome helper today who did the camera work um and yeah we’ll definitely keep you guys updated as as the season goes thanks for watching
