Plant Propagation

Save leggy pothos stems with nodes!

You don’t need a leaf. I had a super leggy part of my plant that wasn’t getting any light. Of course prop the parts with leaves but if you just have a long stem, cut it up. Chop right under a node and prop them in water. I had lots of stems and some didn’t make it, and some are taking a long time. Here’s a photo of the process. It will create a new leaf first and then roots. All of these have been in water for about a month and half, two months.

All of these are different growth stages. This is probably because I had 10 or so of them in a shot glass. Some maybe got more light than others because of that.

I’ve done this with monstera plants as well. I now have about 6 new full plants off of a 4 foot leggy stem.

I’m sure a lot of you already know this, but I’ve never propped just the stem, I’d throw them out! gasps in plant mama.

When I googled this there wasn’t much information with images (I’m a visual learner). So hope you learned something cool today! 🙂
