Plant Propagation

Why isn’t it rooting?

So I've cut the plant as I've seen on many tutorials, somehow there are no roots where I thought they would be , instead , there are some growing out of a spot I wouldn't think would grow roots , what am I doing wrong?
The roots should've come out of the area circled in red

i just propagated a coleus, took about three weeks if i remember correctly and the roots came out everywhere along the stem that was submerged in water – i’d recommend give it time, pretty sure I see some roots forming in the area circled in red already

I see roots already in the water. It’s random where it decides to root. It usually roots along the stem but if you want it to root a lot, you can use rooting hormone.

Increasing light and temperature will speed up the process but as long as it has some light it will get there eventually. Coleus are very hardy.

That’s a lot of leaves on one cutting. It is pulling up water and using energy to sustain all of those leaves, it has little energy left to form roots. I have good success with 2-3 nodes and 2-3 leaves on each cutting.

It just takes time. Once the roots start growing- it goes crazy.
