Plant Propagation

My yucca is empty inside – how to fill the trunk?

Hi everyone! It might be a weird question, because propagation is not my main issue, but perhaps you will be able to help.

My yucca elephantipes was looking really sad for a long time with only a couple of curled leaves. I decided to let it be to check if it's still alive. Eventually one leaf sprouted from the soil. I was really careful with the yucca this time, and the new stem looks nice now.

Today I have finally cut the trunk and there's that huge hole inside with some fiber. I guess there is some life left in the upper part of the trunk (last picture), so I will give it a chance to propagate. I'm more concerned about the trunk and stem in the pot. Any ideas how can I fill it or cover it? I know there is a product that protects cuts after pruning (gardening ointment? not sure what's the correct translation), but will it work in this case? Should I stuff it like a turkey? LOL maybe it would be easier to just toss it to the bin and focus on the stem. I'm 99% convinced that the trunk in the pot won't grow any new leaves on the top, but who knows.

I'm open to any suggestions! And please don't bash me for cruelty against the plant based on the state of the trunk. I'm working on a proper watering schedule 🙂

I think you are overthinking and underestimating what the plant can do. The trick to propagating is trusting the plants nature to take care of itself. The dry end where you have cut the stem is normal. Place in pot and leave alone.
