I never heard of anything like a plant been too adjusted to water to never be able to be moved out of it. I would look up some Tipps on what substrate that is locally available that’s good or order some online.
If you want to keep plants in water you have to find some fertilizer that is made for tmwater (for example look up “hydroponics long term fertilizer).
I don’t know how good Monsteras do in water, I would look it up on YouTube or Reddit/Google.
