Please help, is this in danger of falling?

I just bought this house and made a comment about potentially having this tree cut down at some point. Well one of my friends decided to take it upon himself to start chopping away when I went inside for a bit. I came out and stopped him, we are near a ton of power lines and neighbors homes/sheds. There’s no way this will fall without hitting something.

I called my electrical company’s emergency line and they said “at some point” they’ll have forestry come out and take a look

I’m terrified of this thing falling. Is it a fall risk right now?

Immediate risk probably not*, long term risk yes. There’s still enough to hold it upright unless there’s a deeper cut where we can’t see it, but the tree cannot recover from that. Eventually rot will get in that wound, weaken the tree and that will cause it to fall eventually.

*The cut on the right MIGHT be enough for a storm to topple it but it would probably take hurricane force winds to do so.

No, as someone else mentioned already it’ll eventually become infected and die. But you’re talking on the order of months not days.

Your friend is a little dull, but you’re not in any trouble for a while.

Also make your friend pay for this, please for the sake of the rest of the world it may teach them some sort of responsibility

Have your friend pay for the removal, unless your power company is really ambitious they don’t do the work for individual house connections. Most are limited to the wires between poles in the easement behind the houses or out in the street , not from the house to the main line.

    There’s time.
