20 Gallon Swamp Ecosphere: Day 5

Everything is moving along nicely. The water appears to have cleared up as much as it’s going to. All the species observed on Day 1 are still present, minus the dragonfly nymphs and mosquito larvae which I removed. Some new species have been spotted as well. It is clear that diving beetles will be the stars of this ecosphere, at least for the time being. They are the most abundant large animals in there and I have observed at least two distinct species (possibly three). As the swamp I sampled from had no aquatic plants aside from duckweed, I went to a lake in the local park and collected several different plants, as well as a big blob of string algae I placed in the center. The algae blob is kinda cave-shaped, and the shrimp like to use it as a hiding place. Next I plan to add a large branch that stretches across the tank as a sort of centerpiece, as well as some rocks and other natural decor.
