too many leaves?

Hiii all!

Just snipped these suckers these and put in water with rooting hormone and propagation promoter. Do you think there's too many leaves for such a little stem?

I also chopped the stem of the mother plant (final slide) down to a stub. It just wasn't growing except for the little leaves at the bottom. What would you recommend for care for the mother plant. Should I keep watering and see if it comes back to life? Thank you!
