I have a similar issue and I’ve only been able to guess that it is due to heat or possibly sun scald.

Are the roots okay? Usually when something suddenly happens like this to me it’s a critter eating it from below.

I had something similar happen to mine but only a few, they were the ones outside the leaves and were getting smoked by the sun

Probably sun burnt or not enough water and sun burnt. You can also mess them up if you water them when it gets too hot. They steam themselves and end up like this too.

My guess would be likely too much sun, too little water. A few really hot and dry days back to back will do it
